APRIL 30 1996
A MEETING OF THE READING SCHOOL BUILDING
COMMITTEE WAS HELD ON APRIL 30 1996 IN THE CAREER CENTER OF READING
MEMORIAL HIGH SCHOOL.
PRESENT WERE RUSSELL GRAHAM ROGER SANSTED DAVE WILLIAMS JOE
LUPI AND RICH RADVILLE.
REPRESENATIVES OF DRA AND THEIR SUBCONTRACTORS WERE PRESENT
TO OUTLINE THEIR FINDINGS SOFAR.
THE STRUCTURAL ENGINEER STATED THAT THE BUILDING IS
STRUCTUALLY SOUND AND LITTLE IF ANYTHING NEEDS TO BE ADRESSED IN THAT AREA.
THE HVAC CONSULTANT FOUND MUCH OF THE SYSTEM TO BE NOT IN
OPERATING ORDER FOR A NUMBER OF REASONS AND FOUND MUCH LACKING IN THE
SYSTEM AS IT PRESENTLY EXISTS. HE CONCURRED THAT THE SYSTEM DOES NOT ALLOW
FOR EFFICIENT HEAT OR AIR CIRCULATION TO BE IN ANY WAY REALIZED AND THAT
PARTS OF THE BUILDING WOULD AS A RESULT BE EXTREMELY HOT WHILE OTHERS
WOULD AT THE SAME TIME BE FREEZING. SOME OF THE ADVERSE CONDITIONS COULD
BE ALLEVIATED BY SOME ATTENTION TO MAINTENANCE AND WITH THE MOVEMENTOF
PORTIONS OF THE SYSTEM TO VARIOUS OTHER AREAS OF THE BUILDING.
THE LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT ADRESSED A NUMBER OF CONCERNS WITH
BOTH THE GROUNDS AND WITH TRAFFIC IN THE AREA. THE CONFUSION AS TO WHICH
AREAS IN BIRCH MEADOW BELONG TO THE SCHOOLS VERSUS THOSE WHICH BELONG TO
THE MUNINCIPAL SIDE STYMIED HIS ABILITY TO ADRESS MANY OF HIS CONCERNS. HE
WAS TO GET TOGETHER WITH ALL INVOLVED PARTIES AND COME BACK TO THE
COMMITTEE WITH HIS FINDINGS.
THE ARCHITECT IN GENERAL FOUND THAT MUCH OF THE SPACE WAS NOT
IN THE IDEAL CONFIGURATION FOR EDUCATIONAL USE AS CURRENT STANDARDS
WOULD DEMAND AND THOUGHT MUCH COULD BE DONE TO MAKE IT A MORE
AESTHETICALLY PLEASING EDIFICE. SOME OF THIS COULD BE ADRESSED EASILY AND
SOME WOULD REQUIRE MAJOR AND EXPENSIVE CHANGE. THEY STRESSED THAT MUCH
MORE INPUT IS NEEDED BEFORE THEY COULD BE MORE DEFINITIVE IN THEIR
RECCOMONDATIONS.
ON MOTION OF ROGER SANSTED SECONDED BY RICH RADVILLE THE
MEETING ADJOURNED AT 10:05PM
