Police Station Building Committee
January 12, 1998 1•i
The Committee met in the Conference Room at the Town Hall, 16 Lowell Street,
Reading, Massachusetts at 7:30 p.m. Present were Chair Paul Dustin, Vice Chair Bill
Lavoie, Committee members Eric Jason Smith, Edward Marchand, Robert Cavagnaro,
James Cormier, Bryan Irwin, and Mike DeBrigard also present were Brett Donham from
Donham & Sweeney Inc., and Paul French from Daedalus Projects Inc.
On motion by Bill Lavoie seconded by Edward Marchand the Police Station Building
Committee unanimously accepted the submitted Minutes of the December 22, 1997,
meeting.
Paul Dustin: The Selectmen accepted Plan Option C1, for 18,692 sq. ft. The square
footage is an estimate. If everything continues on schedule, the Special Town Meeting will
be on March 9, 1998.
- Brett Donham: The 16,692 sq. ft. plan the Board of Selectmen approved is a statement of
intent. It is based on the space needs of the individual rooms and offices.
The four schemes presented depict having a partial basement, a full basement, the fan
room on the third floor, and the outside view. The new plans also have reduced footage
and represent the police departments input. Brett presented the committee with a model.
He asked the police to review the office space and materials for the inside of the building.
The Police Station Building Committee agreed that a visual screen is needed to hide the
view of the back of the Anton's building.
Bryan Irwin: The expansion space should be marked on the plans. He questioned whether
the expansion space is located in areas that will be practical to use.
Edward Marchand: Chief Marchand is pleased with the expansion space. He foresees
future growth with more specialists and a need for more space.
James Cormier: The Police Department would like to review the plans before they are
finalized.
The expansion space will have concrete floors, no ceilings, sprinklers and electricity. The
Police Station Building Committee would like a cost estimate to minimally finish off the
expansion space. The space could be used for training purposes.
The next Police Station Building Committee meeting will be February 2, 1998.

On motion by Bob Cavagnaro seconded by Mike DeBrigard the Police Station Building
