WATER & SEWER ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES
April 30, 2001
A meeting of the Water & Sewer Advisory Committee was held at 7:10 P.M. on Monday, April 30,
2001, in Room 207, Reading Memorial High School, 62 Oakland Road, Reading, MA.
In attendance were Chairman Gail Wood, Secretary William Freeman, Committee member Robert
Salter, DPW Director Ted McIntire.
FY02 Water Rates
Ted McIntire presented a revised package which included no debt in FY02 for the Summer Avenue
water main construction and Water Treatment design. The proposed rate is $3.30 per one hundred
cubic feet. Staff also prepared a package that maintained the water rate in FY02 equal to the existing
rate in FY01 of $3.56 per one hundred cubic feet. There are a number of expensive projects scheduled
in the capital plan in the near future and this package was prepared to allow a transfer approximately
$79,000 from the water reserve fund as opposed to the required $250,000 transfer. Funding of the new
programs will require water rates to increase in the next and future years. By maintaining the present
water rate, the increase expected in FY03 will be softened somewhat.
It was moved by Bill Freeman, seconded by Bob Salter and approved by a vote of 3-0 to recommend a
FY02 water rate of $3.56 per one hundred cubic feet effective with the August 1, 2001 billing with a
minimum of $7.12 per billing.
It was moved by Bill Freeman, seconded by Bob Salter and approved by a vote of 3-0 to adjourn the
meeting at 7:25PM.
