Regular Session October 16, 2006

Chair Webb called the regular session to order at 7:31 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room at Coolidge Middle
School. Present were Ms. Webb, Mr. Caruso, Mr. Michaud, Mr. McFadden, Mrs. Gibbs, and Mr. Dahl. Also
present were Superintendent Patrick Schettini, Jr., Assistant Superintendent John Doherty, Director of Human
Resource and Finances Mary DeLai, RMHS Principal Joseph Finigan and RMHS Social Studies Teacher Gary
d'Entremont. 0

New Business

Approve RMHS Field Trip to London

Mr. Gary D'Entremont, a social studies teacher at RMHS and Mr. Finigan presented some information about
the proposed field trip to London England.
Mr. Caruso moved to approve the Reading Memorial High School field trip to London, England as
outlined in the Superintendent's memorandum dated October 12, 2006. Seconded by Mrs. Gibbs. The
~2tion passed 6-0.
Mrs. Webb read the Reading Public Schools Mission Statement.
Gifts
There were no gifts.
Citizens' Input
There was no citizen's input.
Reports of Chairman, Liaisons and Superintendent
Mrs. Webb gave a recap of what has happened since the last School Committee meeting on September 28th,
including attending various town board meetings, building project inspections, and the presentation of the 15.3
million dollar check from Treasurer Timothy Cahill for the final payment on the RMHS building project.
Several school committee members commented on the receipt of the final payment. Mrs. Gibbs praised the
high school administration for their hard work during the building project.
Superintendent Schettini discussed the presentation that he made to the local realtors this morning on the
-mission and direction of the Reading Public Schools.

Old Business
Building Project Update
Scott Dunlap from AI3 gave an update on the RMHS building project. He reported that the project will now
qualify for additional reimbursement up to the amount of $57,069,381, which is different from the original
amount of $53,012,316.
Mr. Dahl inquired about the status of the punch list on the part of the high school that has been completed.
Town Meeting Preparation
Mr. Schettini and Mr. Dunlap gave a power point presentation on the high school contingency. This
presentation is in preparation for a meeting with the Board of Selectmen on Oct. 17th and the November town
meeting.
Mrs. Gibbs moved to request that the Board of Selectmen and/or Town Manager submit an application
under Mass General Laws Chapter 59 sections 21C(k) and 21D to the Massachusetts Department of
,evenue for determination that additional borrowing in the sum of $1,350,000 may be included under t

Seconded by Mr. Dahl. The motion passed 6-0.
Budget Transfers
Ms. DeLai gave a short presentation about the request for budget transfers within the FY07 budget to offset
some additional anticipated costs in special education and school building maintenance.
Mrs. Gibbs moved to authorize the transfer of $80,000 from the FY07 Regular Day budget to the FY07
Special Education Budget and $120,000 from the FY07 Regular Day budget to FY07 School Building
Maintenance budget as outlined in the Superintendent's memorandum dated October 12, 2006.
Seconded by Mr. Caruso. The motion passed 6-0.
New Business
Financial Forum
Mr. Schettini discussed the upcoming Financial Forum on Wednesday evening, October 18, with the Finance
Committee and Board of Selectman. The Superintendent's recommended budget will be presented to the

School Committee Calendar
Schettini announced that the Spotlight on Education will be on November lst at 7:00 p.m. at Coolidge
Middle School.
Approval of Minutes
Mrs. Gibbs moved to approve the September 28, 2006 minutes. Seconded by Mr. Caruso. Motion
approved 6-0.
Adjourn
Executive Session
Mr. Caruso moved to enter into Executive Session to discuss school security and collective bargaining
negotiations and not return to regular session. Mr. McFadden seconded the motion. Roll call vote
approved 6-0. Mr. Caruso, Mr.McFadden, Ms. Webb, Mrs. Gibbs, Mr. Michaud and Mr. Dahl.
Meeting adjourned at 9:10 p.m.
