Call to Order
Chair Webb called the regular session to order at 7:35 p.m. at the Coolidge Middle
School Multipurpose Room. Present were Ms. Webb, Ms. Gibbs, Mr. Caruso, Mr.
Michaud, Mr. McFadden, Mr. Dahl, Superintendent Patrick Schettini, Jr., Director of
Human Resource and Finances Mary DeLai, Assistant Superintendent John Doherty, Fin
Com Representative Chuck Robinson, Fincom Representative Harold Torman, Wood
End Principal Richard Davidson, Birch Meadow Principal Tom Daniels, Barrows
Principal Karen Callan, Joshua Eaton Principal Patty deGaravilla, RMHS Principal
Joseph Finigan, Killam Principal Paul Guerrette, Chronicle Reporter Doug Wood Boyle,
Reading Advocate reporter Melissa Russell, AI3 Representatives Scott Dunlap and Phil
Callahan, and Design Partnership Representative David Capaldo
Chair Webb read the mission of the Reading Public Schools.
Epilepsy Foundation Award
Mr. Anthony Cerullo, president of the Epilepsy Foundation, talked about the Epilepsy
Foundation and the Award that was presented to Grade 3 students. Each student who
received an award showed their piece of art work and read their passage. Mrs. Webb
congratulated the students on their achievement. Mr. Dahl thanked Mr. Cerullo for his
efforts in teaching values to the school community.
There was a short recess at 7:55 p.m.
The meeting was reconvened at 8:00 p.m.
Bills and Payrolls
Bills and payrolls were circulated to all members of the committee.
Citizens' Input
There was no citizens' input.
Gifts
There were no gifts presented this evening.
Reports of Chairman, Liaisons, and Superintendent
Superintendent Schettini reported on several items:
• The Parker Middle School Future Cities Engineer Team came in 5th place at the
National Competition in Washington D.C. during February Vacation.
Superintendent Schettini praised the staff and students for their achievement.

Festival. They will be performing at the State Finals on Sunday, March 25th
• High School Jazz Ensemble finished in the top 5 of all Jazz Ensembles at the
University of New Hampshire Jazz Competition.
Regular Session 2 March 12, 2007
• The RMHS Performing Arts Department presents "A Night in New Orleans" on
Friday, March 30 at 7:00 p.m.
Chairperson Webb talked about a performance she recently attended of the Reading
Symphony Orchestra at the Fine and Performing Arts Center. She also gave an update of
her and the Superintendent's attendance at the MASC Conference and a conference that
focused on the report, Tough Choices, Tough Times. She announced that the Coolidge
Spelling Bee is on March 31St and that the School Committee has a team which will be
participating in the Bee.
Old Business
Building Project Update
Scott Dunlap from AI3 gave an update on the RMHS Building Project. He spoke of the
following:
• The final phase of the project, which includes the demolition of the old building.
• An update on the punch list.
• An update on the HVAC subcontractor which has underperformed on this project
and the options that the School Committee has to make sure that the HVAC punch
list has been completed.
Mrs Gibbs moved to request that the RMHS protect architect, Design Partnership
of Cambridge, prepare all applicable documents to exercise the option to take over
the work of the HVAC for the project in accordance with Article 2.4 of the General
Conditions of the Contract with TLT Construction of Wakefield, the general
contractor for the RMHS project Further to authorize the Superintendent to enact
this motion on behalf of the School Committee. Seconded by Mr. Caruso. Motion
passes 6-0 Mrs Gibbs, Ms Webb, Mr. McFadden, Mr. Caruso, Mr. Dahl and Mr.
Michaud.
Mr. Dunlap continued his update on the status of the track and the punch list items
associated with the track. These punch list items have not been addressed in an effective
manner.
Mrs Gibbs moved to request that the RMHS project architect, Design Partnership
of Cambridge, prepare all applicable documents to exercise the option to take over
the work of the Outdoor Track for the project in accordance with Article 2.4 of the
General Conditions of the Contract with TLT Construction of Wakefield, the
general contractor for the RMHS Project. Further to authorize the Superintendent
to enact this motion on behalf of the School Committee. Seconded by Mr. Caruso.
Motion passes 6-0. Mrs. Gibbs, Ms. Webb, Mr. McFadden, Mr. Caruso, Mr. Dahl
and Mr. Michaud.
Mr. Dunlap continued his update by discussing the Phase 3 demolition and the asbestos
removal.
Repaular Session 4 March 12. 007
Superintendent Schettini explained the process used to create the draft policies including
meeting with a representative from MASC, as well as, his expertise in school law.
Several of the policies were reflective of previous Reading School Committee Policies in
compliance with Massachusetts State Law.
New Business
Mrs Gibbs moved to approve $30,000 from the athletic revolving account to be used
for the installation of the field lighting at RMHS. Seconded by Mr. McFadden.
Motion carries 4-2 Mrs. Gibbs, Ms. Webb, Mr. McFadden and Mr. Dahl in favor.
Mr. Caruso and Mr. Michaud opposed.
Personnel
No personnel issues were discussed.
New Business
There is no new business.
Approval of Minutes
Mrs Gibbs moved to approve minutes dated December 18, 2006. Seconded by Mr.
Michaud. Motion passed 6-0. Mrs Gibbs, Ms Webb, Mr. McFadden, Mr. Caruso,
Mr. Dahl and Mr. Michaud.

Michaud Motion passed 6-0 Mrs Gibbs, Ms Webb, Mr. McFadden, Mr. Caruso,
Mr. Dahl and Mr. Michaud.
Adjourn
Mrs Gibbs moved to adjourn, seconded by Mr. McFadden. Motion passed 6-0.
