Regular Session May 29, 2007
Call to Order
Chair Webb called the meeting to order at 8:01 p.m. at the School Committee Conference
Room. Present were Ms. Webb, Ms. Gibbs, Mr. Caruso, Mr. McFadden, Mr. Michaud,
Mr. Robinson, Superintendent Patrick Schettini, Jr., Assistant Superintendent John
Doherty, and Steven Hagan from the Reading Chronicle.
Routine Matters
Bills and Payrolls
Bills and payrolls were circulating.
Citizens' Input
There was no citizens' input.
Gifts
There were no gifts for this evening.
Reports of Chairman, Liaisons, and Superintendent
• Mr. McFadden reported that every girl's and boy's spring sports teams came in
either first or second in the Middlesex League. He congratulated the athletic
department and athletic director Phil Vaccaro for their efforts.
• Mrs. Gibbs thanked the Freshmen Baseball Team for volunteering at the
Challenger Baseball session last Friday night.
• Mrs. Webb reported on the meeting that she and Superintendent Schettini had met
with a representative of the Governor's Office on Education.
• Mrs. Webb reported that the Town Manager is looking for a member of the
School Committee or a citizen appointed by the school committee to be on the
planning committee for the Birch Meadow Area. There was unanimous
consensus that Chris Caruso will represent the School Committee on this
committee.
Superintendent Schettini reported that the RISE playground will be opening soon.
Superintendent Schettini and Mr. Robinson reported on the Joshua Eaton
celebration that occurred on Memorial Day.
Calendar
Mrs. Webb said that the next School Committee meeting will be on June 4"'. Graduation
will be on June 3rd at 1:00 p.m.

Personnel
There were no personnel issues.
New Business
Parker Field Trip
Superintendent Schettini gave an overview of a field trip request by Parker Principal
Linda Darisse for an out of state field trip to Canobie Lake in Salem, N.H.
Mr. Caruso moved to approve the Parker Middle School Band/Chorus field trip to
Canobie Lake Park on June _1.5tn as outlined in the Superintendent's memorandum.
Seconded by Mr. McFadden. Motion carries 6-0. Mr. Caruso, Mr. McFadden, Ms.
Webb, Mr. Robinson, Mrs. Webb and Mr. Michaud.
Approval of Minutes
Mr. Caruso moved to approve regular school committee minutes dated May 7, 2007
with changes. Seconded by Mr. McFadden. Motion passed with edits 6-0-0. Mr.
Caruso, Mr. McFadden, Ms. Webb, Mr. Robinson, Mrs. Webb and Mr. Michaud.
Adjourn
Mr. Caruso move to adjourn into executive session for the purposes of non-
represented contract negotiations and collective bargaining negotiations to return to
public session. Seconded by Mrs. Gibbs. Roll call vote 6-0. Mr. Caruso, Mr.
McFadden, Ms. Webb, Mr. Robinson, Mrs. Webb and Mr. Michaud.
Meeting adjourned at 8:15 p.m.
Meeting was called back to order at 10:22 p.m.
Salary Ranges
Mrs. Gibbs moved to approve salary ranges for non-represented personnel as
outlined in the Superintendent's memo dated May 25, 2007. Seconded by Mr.
McFadden. Motion carries 6-0. Mr. Caruso, Mr. McFadden, Ms. Webb, Mr.
Robinson, Mrs. Webb and Mr. Michaud.
Extraordinary Services
Mrs. Gibbs move to allocate the amount of up to $10,000 of the FY07 budget for
extraordinary service payments to district and school based administrators for
service above and beyond typical expectations during the school year 2006-07. This
amount to be dispersed by the Superintendent based on his assessment of
administrator performance using -the following criteria: additional time required
beyond what is expected of the position, achieving higher than typical expectations,
and significant contributions to the district directly attributed to the work of the

individual. Seconded by Mr. Caruso. Motion carries 6-0. Mr. Caruso, Mr.
McFadden, Ms. Webb, Mr. Robinson, Mrs. Webb and Mr. Michaud.
Mr. Michaud moved to adjourn. Seconded by Mrs. Gibbs. Motion passed 6-0. Mr.
Caruso, Mr. McFadden, Ms. Webb, Mr. Robinson, Mrs. Webb and Mr. Michaud.

Call to Order
Chair Webb called the meeting to order at 8:20 p.m. in the Superintendent's Office.
Present were Ms. Webb, Ms. Gibbs, Mr. Caruso, Mr. Michaud, Mr. McFadden, Mr.
Robinson and Superintendent Patrick Schettini.
Contract Negotiations
Superintendent Schettini updated the School Committee on the status of the School Nurse
contract negotiations and shared a proposal that was on the table with the RTA who
represents the School Nurses. He stated that it is very likely that he would be returning at
a future meeting with the final proposal to be approved by the School Committee.
Superintendent Schettini presented his proposal for contact negotiations with principals
and directors in the district. He explained how a scale would assist him in negotiations
with principals and directors.
He also stated that it was his understanding from the Town Manager that given percent
and step increases that the Town administrators will be receiving 34% increases in
FY08. He stated that he would be using this percentage and the discussed ranges as a
guide.
Committee members gave input to the Superintendent regarding negotiations with
principals and directors and supported using the 3%-4% and range as a guide.
Mrs. Gibbs moved to return to regular session. Seconded by Mr. McFadden By
role call vote Mrs. Webb, Mrs. Gibbs, Mr. Caruso, Mr. Michaud, Mr. McFadden
and Mr. Robinson each voted in the affirmative.
