HomeMy WebLinkAbout2005-01-03 School Committee MinutesReading School Committee Reading, Massachusetts Resular Session January 3, 2005 Call to Order Chair McFadden called the School Committee to order at 7:30 p.m. in the Coolidge Middle School Multi-Purpose Room. Present were Mrs. Gibbs, Ms. Webb, Mr. McFadden, Mr. Carpenter, Mr. Dahl and Mr. Spadafora. Also present were Superintendent Schettini, Associate Superintendent Richards, Human Resources and Finance Director Mary DeLai. Chair Francis called the Finance Committee to order at 7:31 p.m. Present were Mr. McDonald, Mr. Francis, Mr. Grimes, Mr. Torman, Mr. LaLecheur, Mr. Bolger Mr. Robinson and Ms. West. Mr. Shubert called the Board of Selectmen to order at 7:42 p.m. Present were Mr. Duffy, Mr. Hines, Mrs. Anthony and Mr. Shubert. Bills and Payrolls Bills and Payrolls were circulated for signature. t Citizen's Input X~ w~ There was no Citizens Input. , Old Business ' Q) co Mr. Scott Dunlap stated that punch list at the Wood End School has been finalized and still is not completed as of this date. Mr. Dunlap stated that Robert Peirce is no longer at Flansburgh Associates. There would be no gap in coverage on the project. The Barrows project is on schedule. There are no change order requiring action at this time. Mr. Carpenter asked if there were any additional asbestos or damage to the infrastructure at this time. He was told there was not. Mr. Dunlap stated that the Reading Memorial High School project had reached a milestone. The exterior of the building had been enclosed so that the interior work can commence. 6 i. Regular Session -2- January 3, 2005 New Business Superintendent Schettini gave an overview of the FY06 Budget. Mr. Hechenbleikner gave an overview of the projected revenues for FY06. Mr. Foley went through the revenues line by line. There was lengthy discussion on the increase cost and coverage of health insurance. Mr. McFadden asked what the value of the Reading Municipal Light Department was. Mr. Hechenbleikner told him the value was not known. The only way to determine the true value is if you sold it. There was discussion regarding naming rights for different locations as a means of raising revenues. Superintendent Schettini stated that naming rights would not effect the FY06 Budget. Mr. Hechenbleikner suggested a two- percent increase in the budget might be a reasonable increase. Mr. Brown stated there was land across the street from the high school, which could be sold to generate revenue. Adjourn Finance Committee Mr. Bolger moved to adiourn Mr. Robinson seconded the motion The vote was 8- 0. Mr. McDonald Mr. Francis, Mr. Grimes, Mr. Torman, Mr. LaLecheur, Mr. Bolger Mr. Robinson and Ms West Adjourn Board of Selectmen Mr. Hines moved to adiourn Mrs Anthonv seconded the motion The vote was 4- 0.
