Reading School Committee tt~ ; Reading, Massachusetts - 25 A 1, Regular Session April 25, 2005 Call To Order Chair McFadden called the regular session to order at 6:10 p.m. in the Guidance Center Conference Room at Reading Memorial High School. Present were Mr. Dahl, Mr. Spadafora, Mrs. Gibbs, Mr. McFadden, Mr. Carpenter and Ms. Webb. Also present were Superintendent Schettini, Associate Superintendent Richards and Director of Human Resources and Finance Mary DeLai. Bills and Payrolls Bills and Payrolls were circulated for signature. Citizen's Input Mr. Brown stated that he noticed a van leaving the field house with students not wearing seatbelts. Gifts There were no gifts. New Business There was discussion regarding a proposed field trip to New York City for Coolidge seventh graders. Mr. Doherty stated the students would visit the United Nations as well as the Statue of Liberty. The trip is planned for May 26, 2005. The students would leave early in the morning and return the same day around 10:00 p.m. Ms. Svenson gave supporting details of the field trip. Mr. Carpenter moved to approve the field trip to New York City as outlined in the Superintendent's memorandum dated April 15, 2005. Mr. Spadafora seconded the motion. The vote was 6-0. Mr. Dahl, Mr. Spadafora, Mrs. Gibbs, Mr. McFadden, Mr. Carpenter and Ms. Webb. There was discussion concerning strategies for Town Meeting. Superintendent Schettini gave an overview of the contingencies for each building project. There was discussion regarding proposition 2 i/2 debt exclusions. Regular Session -2- April 25, 2005 i Mr. Dahl moved to request the Town Manager, at Town Meeting postpone Warrant Article 12 indefinitely. Mr. Carpenter seconded the motion. The vote was 6-0. Mr. Dahl, Mr. Spadafora, Mrs. Gibbs, Mr. McFadden, Mr. Carpenter and Ms. Webb Mr. Carpenter stated that RCTV was to negotiate a contract with Verizon and was in need of a School Committee member as part of the negotiating team. Mr. Carpenter suggested that Mr. McFadden participate in the negotiations. Mr. McFadden agreed to participate. Superintendent Schettini stated that Associate Superintendent Richards had submitted a letter of resignation to him. Mr. Richards will be the Superintendent of Schools in Falmouth. Mr. Dahl moved to accept the letter of resignation from Mr, Richards. Mr. Spadafora seconded the motion. The vote was. 6-0. Mr. Dahl, Mr. Spadafora, Mrs. Gibbs, Mr. McFadden, Mr. Carpenter and Ms. Webb Mr. McFadden stated there were some rough rocks in front of the Wood End School. Superintendent Schettini stated that he was working with the Department of Public Works to have the rocks removed. Adjourn Mr. Spadafora moved to adiourn. Mr. Dahl seconded the motion.
