Regular Session June 20, 2005
Chair Spadafora called the regular session to order at 7:30 p.m. in the Reading Memorial
High School Guidance Conference Room. Present were Mr. Carpenter, Mr. Spadafora,
Mrs. Gibbs, Mr. Dahl and Ms. Webb
Bills and Payrolls
Bills and Payrolls were circulated for signature.
Routine Matters
Superintendent Schettini stated that Mr. Fred Harrison would give an overview of a
proposed trip to Italy.
Mr. Harrison stated that he took 17 young people to Italy in 2004. The trip went
extremely well and he would like to do it again. He stated that he was please with the
caliber of the Tour Company, the tour and the places they stayed.
Mr. Carpenter asked if Mr. Harrison could comment on security and methods of keeping
students together. Mr. Harrison stated that there is a 1-6 ratio on the chaperones. There
is no alcohol allowed and there is an 11:00 p.m. curfew.
Mrs. Gibbs moved to approve the field trip to Italy as outlined in the
Superintendent's memorandum dated June 16, 2005 Mr. Carpenter seconded the
motion. The vote was 5-0. Mr. Carpenter, Mr. Spadafora, Mrs Gibbs, Mr. Dahl
and Ms. Webb. Mr. McFadden had not arrived vet.
Mr. McFadden arrived at 7:50 p.m
Building Project Update
Mr. Dunlap gave an overview of the Reading Memorial High School Building Project,
Phase I as it is nearing completion. Mr. Dunlap reviewed the construction schedule.
Mr. Dahl asked when the Field House would be turned over to the Contractor. Mr.
Dunlap told him the fall of 2006.
Mr. Dahl asked how the RISE Program moved to Birch Meadow. He was told a moving
company would move RISE.
There was conversation regarding the procedures for work on Saturdays.

Ms. Webb asked about the FF&E installation. She was told mid August.
Ms. Webb stated that the temporary occupancy permit should be all set. All Town wide
Departments have been meeting and they have visited the Barrows and High School
building sites to review all situations and obtain all approvals.
Mr. Carpenter asked if there would be a time when we are without the auditorium. Mr.
Dunlap told him there would not be a time without the auditorium.
Mrs. Gibbs stated that the RISE Preschool was allowed to close one day early so that the
staff could pack everything for the move.
Mr. Schettini stated that if parents needed services on that day, they would get the
services they needed.
Mr. Dahl asked how the high school would know if the chairs they ordered were in deed
the chairs they received. Mr. Dunlap stated The Design Partnership of Cambridge is
responsible for a comprehensive array of services and that a number of parties have to
sign off on each purchase. The creation of a punch list assures that you get everything
ordered.
There was discussion regarding lockers for handicapped students. Mr. Dahl stated that
one could not assume that everyone handicapped is in a wheelchair.
Superintendent Schettini stated that all students would be accommodated according to
their individual needs.
Mr. James Jordan gave on overview of the Barrows Project.
Mr. Carpenter asked about the heating and ventilation at Wood End. Mr. Dunlap stated
that the air quality consultant stated that the air quality is fine and not a problem at Wood
End. The air temperature was 87 degrees on a particular day and not 105degrees as
rumored.
There was discussion concerning the parking at Wood End.
Mrs. Gibbs moved to allow the Department of Public Works to rebuild the parking
lot at the Wood End School. The amount of the Project shall not exceed $30,000 and
will be taken from the Wood End Building Project account The vote was 6-0 Mr.
Carpenter, Mr. SPadafora, Mr. McFadden, Mrs. Gibbs, Mr. Dahl and Ms. Webb.

Adjourn
Mrs. Gibbs moved to enter into executive session for the purposes on contract
negotiations to return to regular session The roll call vote was 6-0. Mr. John
Carpenter, Mr. Robert Spadafora, Mr. Carl McFadden, Mrs Lisa Gibbs, Mr. Pete
Dahl and Ms. Elaine Webb
