COMMUNITY PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION
MINUTES OF JUNE 23; 1997
A meeting of the Community Planning and Development Commission of the Town of Reading
was held in the Selectmen's Meeting Room of the Town Hall, 16 Lowell Street in Reading,
Massachusetts on June 23, 1997. In attendance were Susan DeMatteo, Chair; and Members
Bryan Irwin, Jonathan Barnes, and Richard Howard. Also present was Town Planner Jonathan
Edwards. The meeting was called to order at 7:40PM.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The minutes of the Commission's meeting of May 19, 1997 were amended and accepted, June 2,
1997 were accepted, and June 9, 1997 were amended and accepted.
ESTATE LANE
The Commission voted 4:0 to approve a motion by Mr. Howard, seconded by Mr. Irwin, to
release the $985.00 held as remaining bond funds for Estate Lane based on the reports of the
Town Planner, Town Engineer, and Conservation Administrator.
CONTINUED PUBLIC HEARING: Harold Avenue Final PRD-G Plans
Ms. DeMatteo called continued Public Hearing to order: Mr. Edwards presented the applicant's
attorney's letter withdrawing the application. The Commission voted 3:0 to approve a motion by
Mr. Howard, seconded by Mr. Barnes, to close the Public Hearing. The Commission voted 3:0 to
approve a motion by Mr. Howard, seconded by Mr. Irwin, to accept the withdrawal based on the
letter of June 20, 1997 from Robert Scarano, attorney for the applicant.
DISCUSSION ABOUT POTENTIAL DEVELOPMENT - Main Street at Knollwood Road
Rick Carter and Christopher Coleman, owners, presented sketches of two proposed small
professional office buildings. The Commission discussed various options and procedures with
these owners relative to the potential development of this land in this fashion.
OTHER BUSINESS
The Commission discussed a request concerning a soil mining by-law. They decided to ask the
Board of Selectmen for further input at the joint meeting scheduled with them for July 15, 1997.
ADJOURNMENT
At 9:OOPM a motion was made and seconded to adjourn and the Commission voted unanimously
to do so.
