BOARD OF ASSESSORS
781-942-9027
TO: The Reading Board of Assessors
FROM: David Billard, MAA
DATE: 01/12/2005
REF: Appraiser's Report
1. To date, there have been 44 applications for abatement mailed out and 24 filed. The
deadline for filing is February 1, 2005, the due date of the first installment of the
actual tax bill.
2. To date, there have been 126 exemptions filed, out of the 350 anticipated filers. The
deadline for filing an exemption for FY2005 is March 17, 2005, three months from
the date of mailing of the actual tax bills.
3. I received a call from Attorney Semerjian regarding One General Way. Given his
conversation with Ralph Colorusso and our awaiting Steve Gasperoni's appraisal,
Attorney Semerjian suggested a rescheduling of the appeal to May 18, 2005.
4. The Selectmen meet on 01/15/2005, this Saturday, to review the FY2006 budget. I
can post a meeting if more than one Assessor is going to attend. The meeting has
been posted for 9:OOAM and will probably end at 12:OOPM.
5. For the Board's review, I have prepared the draft letter to the Finance committee.
6. In your packets is an interesting article taken from the 01/11/2005 Boston Globe, City
& Region section regarding senior exemptions.
7. To date, there have been nine applications for the position of Assistant Appraiser.
