Ad Hoc Northern Area Greenway Task Force Town Hall Lower Conference Room September 6, 2007 Minutes Attendance: Dave Williams, Mark Rumizen, Will Finch, Charles Donnelly Moran, Brant Ballantyne, Frank Driscoll, Matt Wilson, Kim Honetschlager Absent: Fred Alexander The meeting was called to order at 7:30 PM. Minutes from the May 5, 2007 meeting were amended and approved 6-0-0 (CDM not present for vote) • Committee to refocus efforts on: o Grant / Funding o Trail Assessment o Northwest Passage o Costs o Trail Standards _ o Next, Steps after December 2007 • WF discussed his map and assessment of the trail between Mill and Main Streets. Some bog bridging will be required and steps or a switchback ramp will be needed to access the Main Street sidewalk. • Marion Woods from parking area to Lobs Pound may need an assessment as river winds south - the upland trail may be the preferred route. • DW and MR walked trail from water treatment plant to new and old boardwalk to quantify extent of boardwalk. • Canoe launch within the Town Forest may not be practical because of the distance needed to carry a canoe from the parking area. Because the treatment plant is no longer in use, vegetation is encroaching the trail and portions may need to be surfaced. May consider limited vehicle access to the canoe launch area. • FD raised the issue that increased traffic to the area in addition to the compost area's traffic will be of concern to the neaighborhood. • John Feudo had mentioned to DW that an RFP for on operator of the log cabin will be going out shortly. With a commercial enterprise at the log cabin additional parking may be needed. • "H" trail near Lynn Village Way needs to be performed. "F trail boardwalk has a cross-slop but was dry. • Someone had cleared the trail recently along the river within the Town Forest. • Treatment Plant trails are in good condition with only minimal improvements needed for ADA access. • BB to assess ADA requirements at log cabin to Bare Meadow. DW to assess trail "H2" and "HY • Next steps for Task Force: o Compile Grant info and Applications o Grant record keeping o CPA uses o Revise quantities and costs o NW passage feasibility o Full detail map of all trails o Trail standards - possible next steps after 12/07 o Focus on final BOS report Next meetings: 9/27/07 and 10/11/07 Meeting adjourned at 8:55 PM 6-0-0 Respectfully submitted
