HomeMy WebLinkAbout2008-08-05 Trails Committee MinutesTrail Committee Meeting Minutes; Alan Rosh August 5, 2008 8/26/08 Minutes Approved 5-0 Vote committee vote } Attendance Charlie Donnelly-Moran Joan Hoyt Tom Gardiner Alan Rosh Dave Williams Kim Honetschlager Patrice Todisco - From Town Forest Committee Sue Hunter - Reading Garden Club Fran Fink Will Finch 1.Adopt an Island Program Sue Hunter gave history of AAI • Started with 17 islands and now a 113 • Use all members of town to participate in program, individuals, business, and organizations. • Create Mission statement • Create clear guideline • Maintain good data base and records, history • Two mailing a year • Need maps • Publicity o Pictures, photo album o Appreciation night o Produce DVD o Articles in Advocate • Kick off and appreciation night • Reward for participants • Work with DPW • Have teams which check sights on a weekly basis • Put ad in Reading Rec. Magazine • Contact various clubs in town for adopters • Flyers at trail kiosks, bagel world etc • Reading Rec. • Word of mouth • Create calendar of tasks for program Challenges Contacting returning members Suggest e-mail vs. mailing People who do not maintain commitment Signage Trail Committee Minutes - 8/5/08 - 1 - General sign maintenance Funding Town provide signage (approx. $600) - Small budget - tools, Kick off and appreciation nights Fund raising comes from the Garden Club Committee meets as needed, no regular meeting 2. Adopt a Trail Fran suggestion Start with meeting with volunteers on selecting trail to adopt Volunteer does initial trail survey o determines trail status o reports back o Set list of priority of trials o Create program o Create assessment o Flexibility in trail 5. Next Committee meeting (8/26) Set of Adopt a Trail program standards Set of priority orphan trails Set program goals and critical dates Needs to priority to committee prior to 8/26 Publicity -Article in Chronicle -Advertise program Provide final program to Conservation and town forest committees Need to provide finalize copy by 9/04.
