MINTUES OF THE MEETING
Monday, September 8, 2008
In attendance: Susan Patterson, Rick Nazzaro, David Crue
Meeting called to order at 7:43 PM
1. There was discussion to review 4 sets of minutes at the next meeting. Once approved, minutes will be posted on the
website.
2. Plaque. Rick provided the sample brass plaque that we will promote soon to home owners in the district at a cost of
$15.7 5 ea. Rick will prepare an order form that we will send to home owners. These can be filled out and sent to Ann
Gentile at Town Hall, along with a check for $15.75 to Reading Trophy and Shirt Co.
Brochure. David provided a final draft of the brochure for the commission to review. David will produce 200 color
copies, Susan will ask Ann to prepare the 65 envelopes for the commission to mail the brochure to owners in the
district, and will further provide in that mailing a sample application form and a cover letter.
4. Reading Chronicle. It was discussed that the commission received some very good press this week, with a front page
article about the newly installed signs on West Street. This was unknown to the commission, but all were pleased
none the less.
5. TV. Susan has agreed, along with Kathy Greenfield, to "star" in a show with hostess Bobbie Botticelli on Reading
Cable TV. The show will be about The Reading Historical Commission and The West Street Historical Commission.
6. Signs. The commission has been notified by DPW that the posts currently holding up the new West Street Historic
District signs will be soon remounted on 14' posts, rather than the existing 12' posts. This is a town requirement.
Once completed, the town has agreed to prune trees where necessary in order to create more visibility.
7. Recruitment. With the resignation of Jeff Perkins, the commission is in need of some new members. Susan has three
names that she will follow up on, and invite them to join. Susan encouraged David and Rick to perhaps think of a
potential new member as well.
8. 86 West Street Application. An application was submitted to the commission to review for the property located at 86
West Street. The application is for the removal and replacement of the siding on the house, and the removal and
replacement of the roof on the garage/barn. A vote was taken to first determine if the application made involves
architectural features that would involve the jurisdiction of the commission. The vote resulted in a 3-0, indicating
that "yes" it was within the jurisdiction of the commission. Susan then made a motion to waive the public hearing
for 86 West Street because the proposed projects are historically and architecturally appropriate. Rick second, all
were in favor, 3-0.
t........._.
Motion made by Susan to adjourn, David second, all were in favor with no further discussion, 3-0.
Adjournment 9:00 PM.
