ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES
December 13, 2005
- A meeting of the Water, Sewer and Storm Water Management Advisory Committee (WSSWMAC) was
held at 7:03 PM on Tuesday, December 13, 2005, in Selectmen's Meeting Room, Reading Town Hall, 16
Lowell Street, Reading, MA.
In attendance were Chairman Stephen Crook, Secretary John Wood, Committee member Richard Moore,
DPW Director Ted McIntire, and Water Treatment Plant Supervisor Peter Tassi.
Meeting with Board of Selectmen
The Board of Selectmen indicated that they would be having Budget sessions on Saturday, January 21,
and 28, 2006 from 9:00am to 11:30am.
The Board of Selectmen welcomed officials from the MWRA. In attendance were Mike Hornbrook,
COO, Patricia Filipone, CFO, and Pam Heidell, Policy and Planning Manager. Mr Hornbrook indicated
that the MWRA enabling legislation does not allow a community to abandon its water supply. There
needs to be a determination that the use of MWRA water does not constitute abandoning Reading's
supply. The community would have to maintain the wells for use as an emergency. He also indicated
that the other option would be legislative action to change the enabling legislation. The Town would also
have to get approval from the Water Resources Commission for an inter-basin transfer. Mr Hornbrook
estimated that it could take as little as one year to go through the MEPA/DEP process. There was also a
discussion of additional storage in the MWRA system and he indicated that Reading would be a possible
location for a water storage tank.
It was moved by Richard Moore, seconded by John Wood and approved by a vote of 3-0 to adjourn the
meeting 9:01 PM.
