The meeting convened at 6:30 p.m in the lower level Town Hall Conference Room, 16
Lowell Street, Reading, Massachusetts. Present were Board of Selectmen Chairman Ben
Tafoya, Selectman Richard Schubert, ad hoc Municipal Building Committee applicant
Andrew Grimes and Town Manager Peter Hechenbleikner.
Andrew Grimes indicated that information from the World Caf6 would be helpful to
inform the community on needs. He sat in on the ad hoc Municipal Building Committee
Meeting where building maintenance was presented, and he was pleased to see that
building maintenance was being done well.
Chairman Ben Tafoya asked Mr. Grimes if he would have an open mind since a family
member has a connection to Creative Arts for Kids. Mr. Grimes indicated that there are a
lot of arts organizations in town and a lot of arts needs. He thinks that he can be very
open minded and he displayed that when he was a member of the Finance Committee.
Mr. Grimes indicated that there are potentially more pressing issues than arts including
library, community center and early childhood center. He noted that he felt priorities
need to go to situations where there are safety issues, to prevent damage, and to keep all
of our facilities functional.
In response to the question, Mr. Grimes indicated that Thursdays were all right with him
for meeting nights.
On motion by Schubert seconded by Tafova, the Volunteer Appointment
Subcommittee voted to recommend Andrew Grimes by a vote of 2-0-0.
On motion by Schubert seconded by Tafova. the Volunteer Appointment
Subcommittee voted to adiourn their meeting of April 13. 2010 at 6:54 p.m. by a
vote of 2-0-0.
