The Committee voted (3-0 Joan, Tom and Dave) to accept the approved Minutes of the June 16, 2009 meeting. 2. Adopt-a-Trail Program discussion: • The program needs serious review, lots of attention and more organization. There are still adopters that need to be assigned trails. • Assessment of trails should be done by Trail Committee Members prior to adoption. • Main trails still need to be blazed. Trail heads in some areas are not marked and clear. People don't know where to enter the trail. • The idea of each Trail Committee Member taking on the role of Adopt-a-Trail Ambassador for a designated area was discussed. This would allow adopters to have a contact person who can introduce them to their adopted area with a site visit, provide basic trail maintenance information and trail training, answer questions and to report issues or problems to, provide and follow up on adopters completed forms. Tom Gardiner- Kurchian and Sledge Woods Alan Rosh - Bare Meadow and Mattera Joan Hoyt-Town Forest John Parsons- Pinevale Avenue and Schneider Woods Susan Giacalone- Lobbs Pound, Marion Woods, Wood End School portion of Town Forest Will Finch - Lynn Village Dave Williams-All others (Longwood, North Cedar Swamp, Maplewood, Thelin/Morgan/Maillett/Somes, Higgins) • Abutters should be notified by adopters when they will be working on their assigned trails. • Forms every trail adopter should receive from Adopt-a-Trail Ambassador, Trail Committee or Conservation Commission are the Registration Form, Liability Form, Adopt-a-Trail Handbook, Frequently Asked Questions handout. The Registration Form and Liability Form should be submitted to Conservation Commission. 3. Viewing Platform at Bare Meadow • The Committee voted (4-0 Joan, Tom, Dave and Alan) to accept the wording... "Viewing Deck Made Possible by a Grant From REI 2009" for the viewing platform plaque. • The benches have been completed by Will Finch, Kim Honetschlager, Tom Gardiner, Dave Williams and Jacob Finch. • Will Finch has to be refunded for supplies that he has purchased for this project. • Alan Rosh will contact Friends of Reading Recreation to determine the remaining available balance in order to refund Will. • Reading DPW will be asked to connect the bottom of the platform ramp with the trail by bringing in additional aggregate material and connecting the two. It will be necessary to shore up the sides of the extended trail with stones to stabilize it. 4. Bare Meadow Grant • Recreational Trails Program Grant-Amount requested: $18,139. Amount awarded: $16,539. Funds are to be used towards Bare Meadow Trail Enhancements. • Can the purchase of a buckthorn puller be included in the grant funds? • Discussed using funds to plan and design boardwalks to stabilize and enhance areas of the trail which may include the hiring of the appropriate people needed for the project. • Fran and Susan attended the site visit but it was rescheduled due to poor attendance. • Fran will find out if Mark Wetzel is available to help with this project. Are a wetlands permit and design needed for this project? An Order of Conditions? Will a Geo-Technical Engineer be available for a soil test?
