HEALTH FAX: (781) 942-9071 (781) 942-9061 READING SUBSTANCE ABUSE PREVENTION ADVISORY COUNCIL MINUTES March 19,1998 Meeting called to order at 7:05 PM by Co - Chair Sandy Michaud. Those present at the meeting were: Cathy Kosta, Dave Bryant, Sandy Michaud, Jane Fiore, William Carrick, Mellisa Pucci, Ann Marie Powers, Dale Merrill, Lisa Sinclair, and Marc Alterio, Gaynell Knowlton,Leone Sullivan.,Steve Sliowski, Gordon College undergraduate interns present to observe meeting. Called Excused: John Costigan Absent: Jean Russo-Parks, Tenley Hart, Suzie Kelley, David LiBassi, Dave Stamatis Minutes of February 12, 1998 approved 12-0-0 Old Business Report on Drug Free Week : Family skate - well attended problem with communication - use tickets and increase piblicity. Also have TOAD information Table. + Report on talent show : Very successful. It was agreed in the program a reminder to audiences to remain seated throughout the show! Thank you gifts completed. In 1999 the program will begin at 7 pm on a Thursday evening. It was reported that the jazz band was given pizza and soda as a thank you all their extra work. on Wed. evening following the Sunday of the Talent show. Publicity next year will be all around town in windows etc. in Town discussed: Gaynell and Lisa were applauded for their expertise. The senior class will be offered the opportunity to sell refreshments next year. Billboard on the common will be requested. • Health Fair : 38 exhibitors, Rotary gave money, Atlantic donated juice, Graphic Shop donated Talent Show Programs. Pizza purchased from Christy's $345.00 Over 1100 citizens came to the fair. Everything went well because of everyone's hard work! • YRBS on hold until meeting with secondary principals. Discussion was held on issue. The council will back YRBS with a letter and an offer to come to meeting. The council agreed that without the baseline information it would be a disservice and irresponsible of the community in trying to plan effective programming. New Business • The 24 hour relay was discussed for the spring of 1999 dates to reserve will be May22 -23 or June 12 -13. Meeting adjourned 8:30 pm Next meeting April 14, 1998 6pm
