Letter written to the council by Ruth Brophy RN, M.E_D. submitted and attached
to the minutes of meeting endorsing the YRBS
Discussion ensued among council members re: YRBS and personal opinions of
survey
Discussed whether 6d' grade should perhaps be excluded, as long as it does not
interfere with survey of other grades
Noted by Marc Alterio that there were no complaints filed by parents after the
YRBS 2 years ago, such as negative feedback, etc...that survey caused problems
with child at home
Council wants to support family values
- ? if possible to omit certain questions (sexuality) from 6d' grade survey/delete
from grade 6
- CDC is reviewing YRBS now for 2000 and also validity check-routine to do this
Motion
- Made by Bill Carrick-recommend as a council that we consider removing sexuality
and eating disorder questions from survey for grade 6-if this can not be done,
eliminate entire YRBS from grade 6 only.
Vote: 9:0:2
Motion
