HomeMy WebLinkAbout2000-09-21 Substance Abuse Prevention Advisory Council MinutesReading Substance Abuse Prevention Advisory Council Minutes 'September 21, 2000 present: Dale Merrill, Bill Carrick, Cathy Kosta, John Costigan, Sandy Michaud, Jane Fiore, Michael Hanifan, Lori Leland, Leone Sullivan, Dave LiBassi excused: Lori Arsenault I.7:30pm- meeting called to order/ minutes from April mtg approved 7-0-2 abstained ll.no public at meeting at this point for public input III. review of joint meeting/ open discussion Camille Anthony will be BOS liason, attend our meetings quarterly YRBS is under discussion at School Committee level Amy Rosenblatt arrived 7:50pm ? School Committee liason- Jane will f/u Mike Lucey arrived 8:00pm IV. scheduling of next meeting- change 12/2000 mtg from 12/21 to 12/14 ? telephone tree to help promote mtg attendance ? if member misses 3 mtgs in row, gets warning recent mtgs no quorum-this is concerning to all members need to call chairperson or town hall by 5:00pm must send in resignation letter if member wishes to step down from council motion made to change 12 / 2000 mtg to 12 / 14 / 00-motion 2nd'd vote- all in favor 12-0-0 V. Council reorganization Bill Carrick nominated by Dale-motion 2nd'd Bill accepted nomination/ vote all in favor 12-0-0 vice chair/ Cathy Kosta nominated/ accepted by Cathy/ vote all in favor 12-0-0 secretary/ Sandy Michaud nominated/ accepted/ all in favor 12-0-0 VI. Old business Bill- working on article on Ecstasy & recreational drugs Leone offered to help provide info to Bill Mike H and Lori report increase use of these drugs over summer- ? d/ t exposure from siblings and enhances sport performance Marc Alterio arrived 8:25pm discussed RMHS dance this.fri night/ police will be present -1- VII. Old business Marc- decisions parent night: 44 parents attended(good turnout) Respond - battered women's coalition,somerville-conning to RMHS to speak to gr 9 re healthy'relationships/may attend our meetings Marc has 2 new grandchildren(girls)-congrats Marc(3 altogether) Leone- Oct 23-27 Red Ribbon Week/ National banner at each elementary school; kids to sign banner; council to help Leone with this by having attendance at each el em. school Parker peer leaders- working on smoke out in Nov Coolidge-? HS- new term peer mentoring 1hr 2 afternoons/wk C Coolidge/Parker smoking a problem at HS- discussion occurred smoking in restrooms/ discussed fines-done in other schools in Mass Dale-RCTV- would like to do monthly show- subcommittee set up with Leone, Marc, and John Costigan to work with Dale Meeting adjourned 9:20pm- motion by John C,2nd by Sandy Respectfully submitted, Iz* Catherine Kosta
