SUBSTANCE ABUSE PREVENTION ADVISORY COUNCIL
MINUTES OF MEETING May 20, 2004 F ,
CALL TO ORDER 7:30 PM
MEMBERS PRESENT - Sandy Michaud, Karyn Storti, Bob Brown, Lisa DiTrapano,
Bill Carrick, Gary Nihan,Mark Staniul, Jane Fiore (Staff Liaison)

MEMBERS ABSENT - Dale Merrill, Matt Edson, Alexandra Rowen
MINUTES - Minutes for April approved as corrected
PUBLIC INPUT - none

OLD BUSINESS - Discussion of membership included:
Sandy Michaud will probably not re-enlist in the Council and will be missed
No replacement has been appointed for the School Committee representative.
The Council desires to have two student members a replacement for Alexandra
Rowen, (who is graduating) plus a Junior
SCHOOL REPORT - Gary discussed grants, (Safe and Drug Free School Grant) limited
funding and how it would affect school programs. There is no more funding for
peer leadership training; now it is peer mediation. But with new rules. The
middle schools maybe able to meet the new rules but the high school is not yet
interested. Discussion included whether grant funding would apply to 2004-2005
programs.
PROGRAMS - Three programs for next school year:
October 20th - Drugs and Alcohol: Perilous Choices, Dangerous Consequences
Project Alliance
January, March No decision was made on dates or topics for the January or
March programs. Discussion included consideration of a survey on what people
want to learn. The Dear Lisa program was also discussed and whether the
Winchester hospital and the Reading Clergy Association would support the
$700 cost.
