MEMBERS PRESENT - Karyn Storti, Bob Brown, Bill Carrick, Matt Edson,
Lisa DiTrapano, Mark Stanuil,Gary Nihan, Kayla Wheaton, Joseph St.John,

MINUTES - Minutes for May approved as corrected.
COUNCIL MEMBERSHIP - Lisa, Bill, and Carl renewed their membership and were
approved by the Selectmen .(Lisa is moving from Reading in the future. We will need a
replacement.)
PLANS FOR FRIENDS AND FAMILY DAY
Set up, 8:30 Bob; Staffing, 9-12 Corey & Bob, 12-4 Karyn & Lisa; Removal Bob
Presented and discussed display items
Michell Haloren will demonstrate goggles simulating drunkenness - 11:00 - 3:00
PUBLIC INPUT - Two visitors - Mary Ellen O'Neil and April Newman. They
expressed General interest in SAPAC and concern about availability of drugs in high
school. Suggested increased visibility to the public such as by a Summit meeting or day
of awareness.
Discussion included: Meetings already held to increase awareness, Life skills
training, the need to start training in lower grades, grants received and the need to
continue programs after grants run out, coming to grips with change in public
attitude.
- I OLD BUSINESS
Discussion included: Letter to "Atlantic" and misleading flyer purporting
medicinal advantages of alcohol. Police report discussion included: incident of a drug
arrest with a women shooting heroin but having a needle exchange card and an article
in "Chronicle" with more emphasis on the minor injury to police than to the drug use
arrest.
Discussion of the Student report included: drinking on seniors last day of school,
intoxication at."parade" (worse than last year), and alcohol use at Parker Middle
School. Gary reported the implementation of the Youth Risk Survey in the middle
schools , where 12 students opted not to take the survey at Coolidge , but 100 opted
out at Parker.
A motion was passed unanimously that "Gary has done outstanding work on
Youth Risk Behavior Survey"
OTHER
Discussion included: Karyn's attempted contact with RCTV to have the video
"All Jammed Up" shown and the SAPAC annual report to the BOS. Also noted the
frequently asked question, "How can I talk to my kids about drugs."
