MINUTES OF MEETING October 20, 2005
CALL TO ORDER - 7:03 PM 10 4 14
MEMBERS PRESENT - Karyn Storti, Bob Brown, Bill Carrick, Corey Porter, Michael
Saunder, Mark Stanuil, Gary Nihan, Kayla Wheaton, Joseph St.John,
MEMBERS EXCUSED - Jane Fiore (Staff Liaison)
MEMBERS ABSENT - Carl McFadden, Matt Edson,
MINUTES - Minutes for June approved.
REPORT ON FRIENDS and FAMILY DAY - Good: plan again for next year
PUBLIC INPUT - None
PUBLICATIONS and CORRESPONDENCE - after discussion of possible
violation of the Open Meeting Law:
Motion made, seconded and unanimously approved to reply to Peter Hechenbleikner's
memo on e-mail to SAPAC members and to seek advice on e-mail to a list of Reading
residents which includes SAPAC members
Discussion of articles published in:
Reading Advocate and Reading Chronicle
Motion made, seconded and unanimously approved to send a letter to the Advocate,
thanking and complimenting them for their series of articles on drug abuse and the need
for continued effort.
Discussion of Chronicle article of a possible summit to discuss drug abuse. A
problem with a summit is the many different approaches to drug prevention and the
need for a strong leader with time to keep all parties going in the same
direction.
Motion made, seconded and unanimously approved to request that SAPAC be included in
any planning of a drug abuse prevention summit
POLICE REPORT - included a discussion of the terms "protective custody",
"summons to court" and "arrest". Also discussed was the police department table:
Statistics relating to alcohol / drug offenses.
STUDENT LIAISON REPORT - Nothing outstanding to report
SCHOOL REPORT - Discussion of youth survey and passive vs active survey
COUNCIL MEMBERSHIP - Need replacement for Lisa DiTrapano. Need to determine
status of Matt Edson. Bob will tabulate the unexcused absences over the past years.
