Bob mentioned that Mr. Foy Johnson has been appointed to our committee. He previously was a member of the Hazardous Waste Committee. Although we had small attendance at the meeting, those present discussed the scope of the SWAC committee, referring to the write-up that Bob provided in advance of the meeting. We agreed that we should try to limit our goals to accommodate the recent loss of "seasoned" members and to allow our new members to become educated about SWAC-related issues. Reading's Hidden Treasure Booklet: Jennifer has found the disk and our edits of the old booklet. However, due to our delays in getting started in the revision, all deadlines will be pushed further ahead one month. We will review the booklet by February. Lynda will chair a subcommittee to revise the booklet. She'll arrange a meeting for the first creek in January with Joan, Jennifer and Jean. Any other SWAC members who would like to help in producing the updated booklet should contact Lynda Zarrow. Election of Chair and Vice Chair: Lynda nominated Jean Krogh for Chair. Joan seconded the nomination. Bob nominated Lynda Zarrow for chair. No one seconded tie nomination. The committee voted 3-0-1 to elect Jean Krogh as Chair of the Solid Waste Advisory Committee through June 2000. Jean then assumed the role of Chair and nominated Lynda Zarrow for vice-chair. Joan seconded the nomination and the committee voted 4-0-0 to elect Lynda Zarrow as vice-chair of the Solid Waste Advisory Committee through June 2000. Jean thanked Bob for holding die Committee together during our low energy months after Jackie Chipman resigned as Chair. Status of Shed: Ted handed out an article which will be published in Reading Notes (and is included with these minutes for those who were unable to attend the meeting). Lynda will call Sally Hoyt, of the Reading Women's Club. to see if the Chamber of Commerce has been informed of the stied. New Business: Joan asked if the town picked up trash and/or recycling from Reading's houses of worship. She will ask Ted, who had already left SWAC for another meeting. Lynda has investigated the Great Body Shop, a program offered to elementary students which includes units on recycling and the environment. She will ask Ted if this has been considered for MRIP credit. Old Business: Lynda completed the MassRecycle Achievement form for our Bu_v Recycled event at the Atlantic Market. She will mail the form this week. Bob distributed reading material to those in attendance. The next meeting will be on January 12. The meeting adjourned at 8:40 p.m. after which a video was shown on re-refined motor oil.
