The minutes of the May meeting were, approved with revisions. 4-0-1. 2. Educational half-hour began with guest Sharon Kishida. This helpful and informative discussion covered PAYT. Sharon elaborated on other towns that have implemented this program and the successful turnout. One perk that could be offered to taxpayers would be `first bag/can free'. Some communities had `enforcement' people follow trucks during pick-ups issuing a type of warning if they do not follow rules pertaining to PAYT. The tough financial picture of Reading makes the PAYT program seem more attractive but Selectman must be convinced. A survey regarding PAYT to residents was discussed. Sharon assured group that her job would also include her assistance in educating people on program. We talked of offering more services like an extra leaf bag pick-up as a perk. We hope to get more support from school community. `First bag free' service offers better chance of program passing. Regarding MRIP: Sharon said r" Reading will remain in program. 3. Staffing: No new applicants at this time. Jennifer and Lynda both want to stay informed on PAYT discussions. Even though they are leaving group, they want to remain in a `liaison' role until PAYT is passed. The possibility of either Lynda or Anne doing an interview piece in the Reading Advocate section entitled "Conversation" was discussed. Anne will be turning in her application into SWAC again. However, with the low membership of committee, the possibility of Ad-Hoc status, or even Task Force status may be imminent. 4. Anne covered corrections to Readings's Hidden Treasure booklet. Ted spoke on Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day and what a good turnout that occurred that day. 6. Jean thanked departing mernbers Jennifer and Lynda for all of their hard work over the years and Anne presented these fine members, including Jean, with a lovely bouquet of flowers for their dedicated service. Meeting adjourned at 9:10 p.m. o Y f
