HomeMy WebLinkAbout2000-12-13 Solid Waste Advisory Committee MinutesSolid Waste Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes December 13, 2000 Members Present: Anne Mark, Bob Brown, Joan Hoyt, Susan Giacalone, Town Liason Present: Ted McIntire, 1. The meeting was called to order at 7:35 p.m. The minutes of the November meeting were approved with revisions. 1 Mass Recycles Day Update - Don Young photographed and printed the winners of our drawing in the Chronicle. Thank you to Mike O'Halloran for his effort in getting the ":recycling tips" printed in the Chronicle. 3. Ted's Report Update on Reading's Hidden Treasure - Mike has sent the booklet to eight different printers and he expects to get printing prices and schedules from them. T iese printers will use recycled paper and soy based print. We will talk at the next meeting about how the booklet will be introduced to the community. Trash and Recycling Budget - Percentages for coll.vction, recycling and rubbish disposal for FY2002 were up by 45% (collection), 8% (recycling) and 3% (disposal). The trash contract renewal was discussed for FY02 - FY04, The new contract will be effective 611/01. A few suggestions were made to amend the contract and Ted would like any other suggestions/revisions from the committed by 12/15/00 in his office. Globvd Recycling - There is still a problem with the removal by Global of the 12 pallets of computer monitors, tv's, etc. that are building up. They are overwhebued with the volume of CRT's being disposed of. They may have to be sent to Stoughton to be recycled. Recycling Grant - Reading has received a recycling grant for approximately $5,000. 4. Earth Day 2001- we will have further discussion on this at the next meeting. 5. Updating Recycling Information - We will all review the town web site @ LM-w.cixeadin .ng ~a.us to see if there are any changes or updates the site may benefit from.. We'll discuss this at the next meeting. 6. Report -There was not very much to report on the'NoveznbenDecember solid- waste-related meetings and/or site visits. 7. Other Business -We briefly discussed Earth Day and what ocher town groups may possibly be involved such as the Boy Scouts, Community Day, Biodiversity Days, etc. We'll have further discussion at the next meeting. 8. Next Meeting - The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, January 10. 2001 at 7:30 p.m. 9. Adjourned- The meeting was adjourned at 8:55 p.m.
