MASS. 1001 MAR 20 A 11: 31, Members Present: Anne Ma k, Bob Brown, Joan Hoyt, Susan Giacalone, Mary Ellen Becker, 'Keith Becker and Ted 1vlclntire, Staff Liason 1. The meeting was called to order at 7:35 p.m, The, minutes of the January meeting were corrected and approved with revisions. 2. Update on Reading's Hidden Treasure: Teri prmti ded advanced copies to all members to review and amend if necessary. Nlik,- O Halloran has been working on. the bids. Four companies are still interested, although two have dropped out. Joan asked if Reading's Hidden Treasure can be lout on the to-%X&s web site for people that may have lost their booklets or newcomers to th:) town who have not received one. Regarding the publicity for the t*oklet when it is ready, there is a Selectmen's Meeting scheduled for March 13, 2001. Hopeful:.y Uie booklet will be ready at that time and Bob will request that Peter 1- Iechenbleilc:ter anuoance. Keith will work on creating posters to announce the new booklet, which udll be posted at various places in town, Anne spoke with Paul :Feeley of the Chronicle and Nadine Wandzilak of the Advocate and both showed interest in publ.shing articles on the RHT booklet. Joan will pick up a farm at Reading Cable, which is ;necessary in order to post a notice on Channel 9. 3. Ted's Report a. Grants Received - Ted informed us of two grants Reading has received. 71'he Consumer Education Grant is for $2,647.00 and. ~he CRT Grant is for S2,388.00. Ted has reservations about the CRT Gant in :hat: he was not informed at the beginning that Reading would be required to ,,ollect CPUs, mice and keyboards as well as the computer monitors. The 'Logistics of collecting and storing all of these parts is more than our current system can handle. As it is, the storage space is ove=rflowing with CRT's. At the end of Demmber 2000, Reading had paid $3,254.00 for the disposal of CRT's and florescent bulbs. b. Recycling Bids -David Lee is working on these and should have them completed by the end of the week. Paperboard may be added in to our recycling program. c. "Hands Across the Water"' _ Jane Miller ca.led Ted asking if Reading would be interested in participating in her program, They would ask that used books be collected and shipped to third world countries. The Town of Reading would pay all casts associated with this. Ted will call her beck and let her know reading will, not be participating. e. School House Condominiums - Ted has spcken with and met with the Trastees of the condo association. There are forty units in the building, The rubbish is collected two times each week at this time, The;Oossibihty of becoming part of the town's recycling program was discussed. They'll let Ted know what they decide. L Public Works Meeting - TJ:iere will be a Public Works meeting on Wednesday, February 28, 2001. g. Recycling Prograrm. The recycling prograrr; is doing well in Reading, For the last two years it was at 17% and now is 1$.211/6. h. Meeting w1 Sharon Kishid,a -Ted will meet with Sharon on Thursday, February 15, 2001. He will discuss the CRT storage problem with her and find out what ofner companies may be available to pick them up. 4. Earth Day 2001- In checking with various Readin.,g groups, there does not seem to be ranch planning taking place with regard to Earth Day celebrations. The Stream Tears is working on other proj arts, but is interestsd in knowing about any happenings that -we may plan. Joan will continue to make calls Laid find out if any plans are in the works. 5. Mercury Thermometers -Bob attended a meeting at Ogdian Martin. There arcs no plans by Ogdin Martin to begin a mercury thermometer exchange program. 6, Textile Collection - The Textile Collection will take place at the Unitarian Universalist Church on Saturday, April 7, 2001, The, collection tapes place two times each. year. This year, Community recycles is they company picking up the textiles. 7. New Business - Keith asked if businesses in town c;m participate in the florescent bulb and recycling collection, No they can't, but the town can provide information to them if they want to recycle on a private basis. Bob reviewed and we discussed the Items of Interest. and upcoming events he had listed and included in the package 8.
