Meeting Minutes - March 14, 2001 ,
MASS.
Members Present: Bob Brown, Mary Ellen Becker, Susan Giacalone, Joan ,
Mark, Michael O'Halloran (Staff Liaison), Brian Scott (Guest) 3
1. The meeting was called to order at 7:40 p.m. Minutes of February meeting were
corrected and approved as amended.
2. Reading's Hidden Treasures: Michael showed final copy. Booklet cannot be
changed now. Every residential property will receive it. The book will also go on
Town Website. Presentation to Board of Selectman for March 27. After that it will
be mailed. Bob and Mary Ellen will conduct presentation to Board. Paul Feeley sent
Brian Scott, a reporter, to this meeting: Brian will highlight very important changes
especially since last printing of it. Bob will remain in contact with Mary Ellen and
Keith about exact time of presentation to Board. MRIP credit to be gained by this
booklet production. Mary Ellen displayed three flyers Keith designed. Group
decided on one favorite. Joan will be posting a notice on RCTV with Town Clerk's
Office. Or, she can hand information to Michael.
3. Ted's report: Michael indicated it consisted mainly of Update on Reading's Hidden
Treasure.
4. Mercury collections: Bob met with Jane Fiore last Friday. Talked about cooperation
between our group and Board of Health. Jane is Planning a series of articles to come
out in the paper. She has inspected the schools and found no problems present
regarding Mercury. Free fever thermometer exchange being planned. No firm details
yet though about when it will occur. Board of Health meeting April 12 at 6 pm if
anyone would like to attend. Anne will invite a member from Board of Health to one
of our meetings in the future. Anne expounded on difference between SWAC and the
non-existent Hazardous Waste Committee. Joan suggested a separate printing of a
Mercury brochure. Bob and Joan attending a meeting on March 20 on Mercury
Training in Lowell. Joan showed a brochure she received on thermometer disposal.
5. Earth Day: Mary Ellen talked to Girl Scouts and they have nothing planned as yet.
Ideas surfaced regarding signs on the common. Susan will contact a Scoutmaster to
see if some boyscouts could help. Joan will inquire on details on dimension
restriction of sign and possibility of SWAG borrowing big sign in Town Hall hallway.
6. Adjourned 9:11 p.m.
