1. The meeting was called to order at 7:40 p.m. The minutes from the April meeting were
approved and seconded. The minutes from the May meeting were approved by Mary
Ellen and seconded by Joan.
2. Gail Woods was asked to speak on Instructional Motion from Board's perspective. She
indicated the Board would have more to say at the next meeting. Gail spoke on
different rates of recycling that takes place between different towns. Anne spoke
emphatically on need to boost recycling efforts. Chelmsford adopted, but later dropped
PAYT. Keith spoke about an acquaintance from Lexington and their program. He will
talk more about with this person. Gail spoke on history of recycling programs in this
town (with this being the third and most successful.) Perhaps in July the Board. will be
talking more about any new programs. Gail will inform when she thinks Instructional
Motion will come up on Selectman table. This committee will wait until the Board
speaks on it to make any statement for or against it.
3. Ted's Report: The meeting regarding contracts will take place next week. Compost area
visits are down from one year ago. The big pick-up during the month of May yielded
29 more tons than last year. This was most likely due to the torrential rains that
occurred just prior to it. The rubbish budget is looking very close. New recycling
vendor in place for July. All recycling guidelines stay the same; more will be
acceptable, though, such as paperboard. Michael O'Halloran will be attending a DEP
meeting on grant money.
4. Mary Ellen spoke on High School cafeteria. They generate a lot of cardboard that
presently goes into the Dumpster. If they break into 3 foot square, tied bundles, they
would be picked up. Cathy Cook at High School should be able to coordinate this
effort.
5. Bob indicated how Reading's Hidden Treasures would be interesting to other
communities. He also visited the composting facility in Malrboro.
6. Meeting adjourned at 9:02
