Meeting Minutes - December 12, 2001

1. The meeting was called to order at 7:37 p.m. The minutes of the November meeting were
revised, amended and approved as amended. There was some discussioNlWndat'' n e:

2. Ted's Report:
A. FY03 Budget o The contract costs to the recycling and rubbish budget will increase
$53,000. This includes CRT's, waste oil and florescent bulbs.
B. $156,000 in cuts must be made to the General Fund budget.
C. After some discussion and with our support Ted is recommending the following to the
Board of Selectmen:
• Cut the condominium units out which will save $20,500;
• Eliminate Bulk Waste Week which will save $8,000;
• Eliminate Spring leaf pick up and have two in the Fall;
• Cut back by Compost Center hours by 113 in the Summer.
• Keep the Christmas Tree pick up;
D. MRIP - All of the required information has been submitted. There was some discussion
regarding the Basic Category and Advanced Category and whether Austin Prep.
Recycles to see if we can increase the tonnage to meet the Advanced Category.
E. E-Call - Matt Costello will be attending the next meeting in January to present an award
to Bob Brown for all his hard work. The Girl Scouts will be sponsoring the Town of
Reading, in the amount of $500 for this service.
3. Planning Our Objectives: Earth Day 2002 was discussed. We should begin to think about
activities for April and begin planning.
Chip board or paperboard is now included in the recycling bins. This includes cereal boxes,
gift boxes, etc.
4. New Business: A few items in the Hidden Treasures booklet will be corrected and updated
on the web site.
Changing the SWAC name will be discussed at the next meeting. The Beckers will host a
Christmas gathering at their home on Wednesday December 19, 2001.
There is a Hazardous Waste meeting scheduled for January 24, 2002 in Marlborough, MA.
5. Next Meeting: The next meeting is scheduled for Wed., January 9, 2002 @ 7:30 p.m.
