Becker, Bob Brown, Mary Ellen Becker, Susan Giacalone, and Joan Hoyt Staff Liaison: Michele O'Hallan r_ 1, Meeting called to order at 7:35. Mary Ellen Becker was appointed recorder. Minutes of the March meeting were not available. 2. Ted's report (given by Mike) - The MRIP (Municipal Recycling Incentive Program) Phase II meeting was held. Leading is in good shape to meet advance level in Phase 11. The effects of budget cuts were discussed. Compost hours will be reduced: amounting in a $5400 cut from the Parks and Forestry budget. Changes in the compost hours will go into effect with the start of the new fiscal year, July `02, The last leaf curbside pickup will occur April 29. The last bulls waste week will occur in May. Household Hazardous Materials Collection is scheduled for May 18. New water restrictions are in effect. Fliers will be distributed. 3. The Pay-as-you-throw presentation that was held at the Reading Public Library was discussed. Several communities were represented and shared valuable information on the pluses and minuses of their programs and implementation processes. 4. Bob questioned the trash collection and recycling plans for new condo developments in town. He felt that past situations had not been handled as well as they could have been and hoped the town had plans in place. Mike was not familiar with the particulars of the condo situations Bob referred to. ~a t w 5. Earth Day plans Susan and Bob have finished the bag project. The bags are in the stores now. Joan has the Library display well in hand and will put up the display this -coming weekend. Details of the Earth Day cis up were discussed. A meeting to walk the field was scheduled for Wed. night before the event. We are aware of an event at the High School that may cause some traffic; we will just have to see how things go on Sat. b. 'mere will be a composting seminar held at the Senior Center, 7. There will be a Textiles collection held at the D.P.W. on Sat., April 13. 8. The Technical Assistance Grant has resulted m John Merritt being hired to work with Reading to structure ways for Business and Multifamily Units to recycle. 9. The meeting adjourned at 9:15. C- .
