Meeting called to order at 7:35Mary Ellen Becker was appointed recorder. Minutes of the April and May meetings were corrected and approved. 2. Ted's report - The MRIP (Municipal Recycling Incentive Program) Phase 11 goal was met and Reading received $10,626. Only 6 to 7 other communities in Massachusetts received that kind of money. Thank you Mike for your. hard work. MRIP is looking into including business recycling in the program. The compost hour reduction information has been distributed to people using the compost site via a flier. Ted has received two complaints. Pam Brown, the Director of Elder Services has been trying to find Senior Tax Workers to allow the compost site to open on Mondays. So far Rio, one has stepped forward so the site will not be opened on Mondays un a1'egp -tom Household Hazardous Materials Collection was held on May 18. It was a very rainy day but the event went well. Clean Harbors was the company that ran event. 3a John Merritt gave a presentation. He will be proposing a program for Reading to use to increase business and multifamily recycling. He discussed an outline of his plan and the specifics of how Solid Waste can contribute. See sheet. 3b The Garden Club hosted a composting seminar. Ann McGovern gave a presentation. A composting bin was donated by DPW and was won by a Reading resident. There was a good turnout. 3c We have three vacancies on the SWAC and no prospects. A discussion followed about how to attract prospects. The qualifications include being a Reading resident and 18 years of age. Upcoming events - Bob listed several. June 20 Household Hazardous Waste sponsored by Safety Clean June 25 Ipswich River Planning Forum in Wilmington June 27-28 Recycling forum in Manchester NH July 9 Recycling at Fort Devens Good-bye This was Joan Hoyt's last meeting. Her term expired and she chose not to renew. Joan has been a very valuable member and she will be sorely missed. We all wish Joan well in the future. 4 The next meeting is on July 10. Because of the size of the committee now if any one of us is not going to be able to attend the meeting will not be held. It is important now to be sure to make that call to Mike. D m 5.
