Solid Waste Advisory Committee t
Meeting Minutes for August 14, 2002
Members present: Keith Becker, Susan Giacalone, Bob Brown, Mary Ellen
Becker (recorder) Staff Liaison: Michael O'Halloran Guest: Brook Chipman
1. Cali to order at 7:35:°.Minutes for July were corrected and approved as
corrected.
2. Ann Mark was on the agenda for the Textiles collection. She has secured
replacements for the jobs.. she was going to ask the committee to take on.
Therefore she did not need to appear at this meeting. The collection will be
held on Oct. 5, 2002.
3. 'Tod-Mctntire's report:, There are recycling materials available at the D.P.W.
office, pencils, refrigerator magnets, and information, etc. They will be given
out to the community. Large signs will be going up around town with Reading
Recycles on them and Michael's office phone number.
4. a. MRIP will focus on toxic waste reduction, like mercury thermometer
collection. Bob reported that Covanta might be willing to help with
mercury and also florescent bulb collection.
b. The Municipal Recycling Grant monies and applications were discussed.
The staff cuts and the effects on the D.E.P. were noted.
c. We have no information on where John Medit is going. Michael does not
have any information. We will wait to hear next month.
d. Best Buy is running electronics flake back on,Ju! ?

There was an excellent article in t ea-d g vocate, but it contained the J
incorrect information in regard to paperboard. We should make an effort to
get the correct information out to the public, perhaps a note in the Reading
Notes column. Did anyone ever see Bob's picture in the paper?
6. The date for the next meeting was discussed and we adjourned at 9:00.
