Call to order at 7:35. Minutes for October were approved as written.
2. Ted's report:
Ted attended a Vendor Fair on Oct.29 along with David Lee; Supervisor of
D.P.W. and Michael O'Halloran.
The Hazardous Waste Collection dates for next year have been set. They are
4/17/03 in Reading and 10/4/03 in Stoneham.
MRIP is in financial trouble just like all the other State agencies. Reading
received is Phase 1 monies. Phase 2 looks unlikely at this point. Historically,
Reading has received $10-15,000 per yearfrom MRIP.
Recycling was at 17.25% in Reading for October based on collection weights.
It is important to remember that the figures do not take in to account the
material dropped off at the compost sight.
The state has approved more contractors for florescent bulb and CRT pick
up. Currently the charge for disposal of these items is $10 to drop off at DPW
and $20 for curbside pickup.
We will be receiving an updated e-mail/phone list.
The compost site has been very busy and there have been many complaints.
3. John Meritt w rnaet with the Reading/North Reading Chamber of Commerce,
He will discussed his plan for working with businesses to recycle
paper and cardboard.
4. We discussed other possible meeting nights. We will now meet on the second
Tuesday of the month.
5. Bob attended the Covanta Recycling Coordinator meeting on Nov. 11. There
was some discussion about the Quarterly Reports, the use of Excel
Spreadsheet program and what the tonnage figures represent.
6. We did not prepare any articles for America Recycles Day. Everyone should
come with ideas for Earth Day. (Please go to www.earthsite.org for
information on Earth Day.)
- 7. The date for the next meeting was discussed and we adjourned at 9:00. Note
the next meeting will be Tues., Dec. 10, 2002
