HomeMy WebLinkAbout2004-01-28 Solid Waste Advisory Committee MinutesSolid Waste Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes - January 28, 2004 Members Present: Bob Brown, Mary Ellen Becker, Susan Giacalone, Greg Russo, Dave Williams 1. The meeting was called to order at 7:38 p.m. Minutes of September meeting were amended and accepted and seconded by Greg and approve ,,bywD-ve. 2. Ted's report was omitted due to his absence. 3. No one attended Pay As You Throw seminar in Melrose 4. Quorum Reorganization: First action - If no quorum is present, have meeting but do not make decision or have any votes because having minutes taken while no quorum could be viewed as "secret". Greg spoke on invigorating the committee more. He wants to try to involve town more in activities. Bob spoke to Board and they could not offer any help as to our committee meeting its quorum. Bob said Covanta offered suggestion of having more sub-committees. Requirements for sub-committees are that minutes are desirable but not required. Another suggestion is an Ad-Hoc committee. That-requires- meetings not held at Town Hall in a large meeting room. Bob made a motion to have a sub-committee. Mary Ellen agreed to support this. Dave seconded. Motion was approved unanimously. 5. New Business - Bob suggested getting more information PAYT, Hazardous Waste, Composting, Incineration, and Destination of Recyclables. Also how to recruit members and retain them. Also mission of sub-committees - Greg offered possible topics for community. Greg will inquire with Recreation Committee about town-wide interest in some event. Bob motioned for a sub-committee for Greg to contact Recreation Committee contacts. Motion proposed to establish sub-committee for competition, seconded by Susan, motion passed. Sub- committee to be entitled 'Cooperation". Greg to call Gail Wood and ask some questions about this. 6. Reading Fair: To be held May 22 by Lyons Club. Susan will contact the contact person from the Lyons Club as per an entry form; brought to this meeting f, Xy ,2 -I . 7. Motion to adjourn at 9:21 p.m. ,r ~a mot-, r
