HomeMy WebLinkAbout2004-12-29 Solid Waste Advisory Committee MinutesSolid Waste Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes - December 29, 200 Members Present: Mary Ellen Becker, Susan Giacalone, Greg Russo, Dave Williams, Ted McIntire (Staff Liaison) 1. The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. It was noted that Lois will not attend next meeting scheduled for January 26. 2. Ted discussed the compost area. It will be open Saturday, January 8 for drop-off of trees and brush. Curbside pick-up of trees only will take place the week of January 10. Bob Brown, a former SWAC member, still attends the Covanta meetings. The Rules and Regulations will be discussed at the January 6 Board of Selectman's meeting. 3. Apartment Recycling: Dave was invited to address the Board of Selectmen. He did not receive a favorable response. Our task is not to expand the recycling but to improve what we have in place. 4. America Recycles Day: Mary Ellen and Dave put display in library leaving poster and hand-outs and bookmarks out. Dave left information on group with his telephone number as a contact. He reported no calls yet. Copies of "A Guide to Recycling" should be sent to each Principal of each school. The principals meet - one time a week so hopefully they will discuss it. Dave will talk to John Thiffault, who is the recycling guru of schools. Dave also reported he attended the Mass. Vendor Fair on October 26. 5. April 22, Earth Day, we will try to think of plans for displays at local merchants. Also, we will try to generate article to go out in newsletter that comes out with water bill. Mass. Recycles - Dept. of Env. Protection has a 15 minute video available to towns. Dave will try to get copy for committee to view at next meeting. 6. Reading Friends and Family Day are set for June 25.
