Call to Order School Committee Chair, Ms. Lisa Gibbs called the meeting to order at 7:35 p.m. and read the mission statement of the Reading Public Schools. IIA. Bills and Payroll Signed as required. IIB. Citizen's Input There was no citizen's input. IIC. Gifts III). Reports: Chairperson and School Committee Members • Mr. Caruso gave an updated of the Public Relations subcommittee • Mrs. Webb gave an update of the upcoming Division 1 MASC meeting on January 31St at Haverhill High School IIE. Reports: Superintendent w. • Superintendent Schettini talked about the heating issues that occurred this weekend at RMHS. i . Calendar Chairperson Gibbs reviewed upcoming School Committee Calendar dates. These included January 10, 14, 17, 23, and 28. III. RISE Tuition Increase Director of Pupil Personnel Services Colleen Dolan gave a short presentation and recommended a proposal to increase the RISE tuition for the 2008-09 school year. The committee voted on a motion by Mr. Caruso, seconded by Mr. Michaud, to support the proposed RISE tuition increase as outlined in the Superintendent's memorandum dated January 3, 2008. Motion carries 6-0. V. Personnel No items this evening. VI. Subcommittee Business Ms. Elaine Webb, chair of the Meeting Protocol Sub-Committee, updated the committee on the sub- committees work. She explained the two recommendations that the sub-committee is proposing. The committee voted on a motion by Mr. Caruso, seconded by Mr. Michaud, to support the proposed guidelines developed by the Meeting Protocol Sub-Committee as outlined in the Superintendent's memorandum dated January 3, 2008 Motion carries 5-1 Mr. McFadden opposed the motion. VII. FY09 Budget Superintendent Schettini asked the budget parents to introduce themselves. He then gave a presentation of the Administration, Regular Day, Other/Undistributed (District Technology, Health, Athletics, Co-Curricula) cost centers of the budget. This presentation included the positions in the recommended budget. The committee asked several clarifying and informational questions about the budget. VIII. Approval of Minutes The committee voted on a motion by Mr. Caruso, seconded by Mr. Michaud, to approve the open session minutes of December 15, 2007 Motion approved 6-0 IX. Adjournment The committee voted on a motion by Mr. Caruso, seconded by Mr. Michaud, to adjourn Motion approved 6-0. Meeting adjourned 10:10 P.M. Superintendent of Schools
