Call to Order School Committee Chair, Mrs. Lisa Gibbs called the meeting to order at 7:37 p.m. and read the mission statement of the Reading Public Schools. Chairperson Gibbs reviewed the agenda. IIA. Bills and Payroll Signed as required. IIB. Citizen's Input Mr. John Russo inquired about if the book, Where the Heart is, has been discontinued. Superintendent Schettini indicated that it has been taken off of the summer reading list for at least the next two years. He then gave some additional comments about the book. Chairperson Gibbs asked Superintendent Schettini to read a citizen's input letter from Lynda Zarrow, 34 Boswell Road which commented on the citizen's input made by Mr. and Mrs. Gary Phillips at a recent school committee meeting. IIC. Gifts There were no gifts. IID. Reports: Chairperson and School Committee Members Mr. Brian Castelluccio, the student representative, indicated that he would not be at the next two school committee meetings due to school functions and exams. IIE. Reports: Superintendent Superintendent Schettini indicated that Reading Memorial High School has won the Ames Award for having the highest combined winning percentage in all sports in Eastern Massachusetts. Superintendent Schettini commended the work of Mr. Phil Vaccaro and all of the coaches. Mr. Vaccaro thanked the community, Mr. Finigan, and Superintendent Schettini for their support. Mr. McFadden and Mrs. Gibbs praised the work of Mr. Vaccaro. IIF. Calendar Mrs. Gibbs reviewed the calendar. There will be meetings on January 14, 17, 23, and 28`x'. - III. Award of Contract Ms. DeLai and Mr. Huggins gave a short presentation on the contract to provide a copper roof replacement at the Joshua Eaton School. The committee voted on a motion by Mr. Caruso seconded by Mr. Robinson to authorize the Superintendent to enter into agreement with Specialized Roofing of Billerica MA to provide Copper Roof Replacement at the Joshua Eaton School as outlined in the Superintendent's memorandum dated January 8 2008 Motion carries 6- 0. V. Personnel No items this evening. VI. FY09 Budget Ms. Colleen Dolan gave a presentation of the FY09 Special Education budget proposal, and Ms. Mary DeLai gave a presentation of the FY09 school and town maintenance budget proposal. Several questions were asked by the committee. A short recess was taken at 9:15 p.m. in between budget presentations. Ms. DeLai distributed the DOE instructional budget expenditures information sheet and Athletic User fee structure for the Middlesex League. Ms. DeLai passed out a draft of facility use rules and regulations. That draft will be discussed at a future meeting. VIII. Approval of Minutes The committee voted on a motion by Mr. Caruso seconded by Mr. Michaud to approve the open session minutes of December 15, 2007. Motion approved 6-0. IX.
