Mr. Cameron said at the request of Commissioner Herlihy, he had contacted Steve Koppel who is involved in the Science Olympiad and wanted an explanation of why the RMLD was not funding this event this year. I explained to that the RMLD no longer donates money to organizations but Mr. Cameron told Mr. Koppel the RMLD would pledge expertise to his program in the form of RMLD Engineering personnel to assist the students. He said that he understood and appreciated the explanation and the pledge of expertise. Prsicilla Gottwald said that she had received many letters from organizations asking if funding was available and, if it wasn't, why. Mr. Cameron told her to pass the letters on to him and he will assess the situation. Mr. Herlihy stated that the RMLD should be to be sensitive to these organizations when explaining that the RMLD no longer funds these activities. Mr. Hughes said that he believes that Mr. Cameron and Ms. Gottwald are very attuned to these type of sensitivities. New Policy Discussion Andrew Herlihy asked about the effort by the RMLD to develop a policy addressing contributions and gifts from the RMLD. Mr. Cameron explained that there needs to be a clear and concise message to the employees on what can and can't be done by the RMLD employees and Board of Commissioners with respect to gifts and contributions. Therefore, Mr. Cameron created a Work Team to develop a policy dealing with gifts and contributions. Mr. Cameron went on to say that he did not know whether this policy would replace a section of the Policy #19 Board Policy, be a part of another policy, or be a new policy. This would be the Board decision since they are responsible for setting policy. At this time the meeting adjourned.
