HomeMy WebLinkAbout2005-11-30 Nurse Advocacy Task Force MinutesNurse Advocacy Task Force - Meeting Minutes Town Hall, Conference Room zu_ November 30 - 6:00 - 7:20 p.m. 1. Present: James Bonazoli, Lyn White, Anne Marie Bourque, Carol Patterson, Dawn Folopoulos (Staff), Paula Kopple (Observer), Patty Chinetti (Observer). 2. An update about the Hospital Trust fund was provided. • The HTF committee has decided the funds will not be used to build a "brick and mortar" structure. • With this decision, the HTF committee has accomplished its task and has disbanded. • Only the interest on the trust fund is expendable - approximately $150,000 per year. That amount is currently funding Reading Reponse and the Medical Taxi program. • BOS has been asked to form a "Healthcare" committee to look at other possible uses for the HTF • It is anticipated that the committee will begin work during the first quarter of next year. • It has been suggested the members be made up of Healthcare professionals (i.e. Healthcare Attorneys, Healthcare Executives, Healthcare Providers etc). 3. The 2003 Reading Council on Aging Survey was reviewed in terms of a "needs assessment." The information the Nurse Advocacy task force is seeking was not captured on the survey. 4. The Nurse Advocacy task force has decided to create a survey (Goal for completion - Dec 28). Purpose of the survey • Determine if there is a need for Nurse Advocacy services in Reading Determine if Reading residents would make use of such services if they were available. • Style of the survey • Anonymous • Short (approximately 6 multi-choice questions with check boxes) Audience • Elders, caregivers, and family members of Elders 5. Next Steps: • All task force members will come to the next meeting with sample questions for the survey ■ Dawn will contact the Advocate and the school superintendent about assisting with the distribution of the survey. ■ James will contact the Chronicle about printing the survey. ■ Lynn will contact RIVILD about the possibility of adding the survey to the electric bills. Lynn will also contact Winchester COA for a copy of the survey they used to assess the need for nurse advocacy. • Carol will contact the Clergy Association about assisting with the distribution of the survey. 6. Meeting was adjourned at 7:20.
