Town Hall, Berger Conference Room
March 8, 2006 - 6:00-7:30 p.m. al J 12 A i 1 o 2
1. Present: James Bonazoli, Lyn White, Carol Patterson, Patty Chinetti, Anne Marie
Bourque, Paula Koppel (observer)
2. James called the meeting to order at 6:05pm
3. Apologies for Dawn's absence
4. Minutes of February 22, 2006 meeting unavailable at this time. Will be reviewed
at next meeting.
5. Discussed article in recent edition of Reading Chronicle on the Community Parish
Nursing (CPN) Program.
• James indicated that he will be contacting CPN to discuss their resolution and
the work of the Nurse Advocacy Task Force. James asked for input from the
task force members.
• Members agreed that we need to make sure seniors understand that the nurse
advocacy task force is also concerned about helping seniors and is working
toward a similar end.
• Some members had questions about why CPN needed $100,000 (half from
town and half to come from state) to implement a volunteer program and how
the program would implement 24/7 access.
• Paula suggested that we meet with Brad Jones and explain the work and
s to
purpose of the nurse advocacy task force to demonstrate the town's effort
address the needs of seniors.
• Patty suggested that if a program could focus on seniors in Reading without
family support that may be less threatening for seniors as a whole (many who
have adequate support) and at the same time allow the town to prioritize use
of resources for this target group of seniors. Patty stated that many seniors
want to see themselves as always being independent making it difficult to
consider services which provide help.
6. Discussed using the upcoming meetings to analyze survey results and begin
getting input from other COA who have nurse advocacy programs.
• March 22nd plan is to analyze survey data and determine how best to present
this information in a report format.
• Paula will contact the Winchester and Andover Senior Centers to see if they
would be willing to come and meet with the task force members to explain
their programs in more detail and answer our questions. We will invite them
to come separately and will try to arrange for two meetings the first week of
April--4/5 at Sam or 6pm and/or 4/7 at Sam. Morning meetings will beat the
Frank Tanner Community Room and Lyn will provide coffee. Evening
meeting will include pizza per James.
• Goal is still to complete task force work with recommendations and report for
the selectmen on May 23rd
7. Survey results: Everyone except Dawn's data was able to be compiled in James'
Excel file. James offered to enter the 25-30 additional surveys (received since our
last meeting) and will forward the final Excel spread sheet to Lyn before the next
meeting. Lyn will share this with the task group in James' absence on March
22nd.
8. James made a motion to adjourn at 7:30pm. Ann Marie 2nd the motion.
9. Next meetings: March 22nd-b-pm-Berger Conference Room-Town Hall
