Also present: Matt Cummings, Michael Colford. D 2 Mr. Conner called the meeting to order at 7:15 p.m. Minutes: The minutes of March 6, March 11, and March 15 were accepted. Report of the Technical Services division: Michael Colford explained the impact of the new automation system, Ell ("Triple-P'), on the division. Some processes, including adding new materials and especially interlibrary loan, have slowed down. A new release later in the spring will ameliorate this. Financial report: The supply budget is exhausted; supplies will be paid for from state aid for the rest of the fiscal year. About $12,000 from state aid will be needed to meet the fifteen percent expenditure. Statistical reports: These are the first reports generated from the new automation system. Report from the Chairman: Board members are invited to attend the MLA conference. Those who organized Ms. Brennan's reception-Corinne Fisher, Donna InDelicato, Christine Redford, and Nancy Smethurst-were thanked. The Friends footed most of the bill. Director's report: The biannual volunteer reception, originally scheduled for April, has been postponed to September. Applicants are being interviewed for the position of circulation head. Dorothy Alworth's last day is May 3; a public reception will be held for her that afternoon. The 3M security system is fully operational. Kimberly Lynn will submit an RFP for after- hours reference service to the Northeast Massachusetts Regional Library System by the end of the month. Budget: Department heads met with the Town Manager last week to go over possible cuts. Ms. Brennan stated that the Board of Trustees did not vote to close Sundays. To increase the Town's revenue, the Library will be charging for meeting room rentals in the next fiscal year. Rates are not known. Staff will continue to look into a print-vending system to reduce supply costs. If the Selectmen propose a fair cut to the Library's budget, the trustees will decide what services or line items will be cut. Director search: The search committee will consist of Mr. Conner, Mr. Nigro, and Mr. Ogden, Michael Colford, Corinne Fisher, Ms. Young, Matt Cummings, Roberta Mcrae, and Nancy Stager. The meeting was adjourned at 8:35 p.m. ~Q Diane I Young ` Assistant Director
