W Present: Vicki Yablonsky, Chair; Bill Anthony; Suzy Axelson; Karen Brown; eve Conner; Karyn Storti; Elizabeth Dickinson, Acting Director, Corinne Fisher, Head of Children's Services. Ms. Yablonsky called the meeting to order at 7:02 p.m. Minutes for the meeting of August 2nd were approved. Financial Report Ms. Dickinson compared current expenditures to those of last year at this time. She noted a difference in professional development with eight staff members attending the New England Library Association Conference this year. Statistical Report Ms. Dickinson distributed the circulation statistics for. both July and August. Both months showed increases. Director's Report • Ms. Dickinson reported on the terrific summer programs carried out for children, young adults and adults, culminating in a library-wide Splash Bash. • Children's Division is creating a collection of graphic novels for younger children. They are also bringing in children's lit. expert, Anita Silvey to address parents. • As part of a townwide water conservation program, new toilets and faucets were installed at the library. • Ms. Dickinson discussed the promotion of the Anchee Min event. • Ms. Dickinson announced that the annual Staff Day will tentatively take place on January 21' with facilitator, Marshall Keyes working with the staff on strategic planning. • Ms. Dickinson brought a request from a patron regarding soliciting for a non-profit organization. After the policy was consulted, an appropriate decision was made. j t~ p Z. 28 • The Lions Club's fundraising techniques were discussed. Elizabeth will research other libraries' policies regarding fundraising, with particular attention to the use of professional fundraisers. The Lions will be asked to curtail the campaign. Director Search Ms. Storti reported on the progress of the Search Committee. Discussion ensued regarding how many candidates should be recommended and the evaluation process. The Search Committee will bring further results to the next Trustees Meeting. FY06 Budget Ms. Dickinson reported that no guidelines have been received as yet from the Town but expects that this will be discussed at the next meeting. Trustee Items Ms. Dickinson announced a conflict of interest seminar. A thank you card from Kimberly Lynn was circulated. The Trustees officially thanked Elizabeth Dickinson for stepping into the Acting Director job. They also proffered thanks to the Friends via Ms. Axelson for the gift in Ms. Lynn's name for Staff Day support.
