Also present were representatives from the Lions Club: Pat Marton, President; John Shaw, Past President, Bruce Austin, Treasurer and Lorraine Barry, library representative. Call to Order: Ms. Yablonsky called the meeting to order at 7:10 p.m. Check Presentation: The Lions presented a check to the Library for $7800, raised through their efforts this past Fall. The Trustees accepted the donation with great thanks. The funds will be used for Large Print books, described videos, audiobooks, a large screen monitor and keyboard and the MP3 project. Minutes: The minutes for the meeting of December 13, 2004 were approved. Financial Report Ms. Dickinson reported that expenditures are on target. Statistical Report Circulation appears to be progressing normally. The procedures for closing the library in the event of snow were reviewed. Director's Report • Ms. Dickinson reported on the MP3 audiobook pilot project, which will begin this Spring with 5 MP3 players to circulate. • Michelle Filleul, Jamie Penney and Allison DaSilva were honored to be accepted into the Library Leadership Institute sponsored by the MBLC. The 4-day workshop will take place in June. • Brenda Wettergreen and Madeleine Gillis were thanked and congratulated for their 20 years of service to the Library. A Tuscan-themed party was held in their honor by library staff. • The Young Adult Dept. is enhancing their programming for teens. They are starting a monthly Craft Night and an "e-zine" for publishing poetry and other writing on the library website. • The Friends Holiday Store was very successful and sold out of many titles. The final tally will be forthcoming. • Plans for the upcoming Legislative Breakfast are moving forward with the "Great Comebacks" theme embodied in tiny potted crocuses and Spring flowers! Suzy Axelson and Elizabeth Dickinson have done a great deal of work, which will be appreciated by NMRLS members. Reading Trustees and town officials will be in attendance as well as Representatives TiseL Jones and Barrios and Lt. Gov. Kerry Healy. • Ms. Dickinson attended a required training on Discrimination and Harassment Prevention with the other Town Department Heads. It was conducted by an attorney and social worker from the MA Commission Against Discrimination. Update: Director Search Committee Ms. Storti distributed an update on the search. The Committee has recommended four candidates. Ms. Dickinson will send their resumes to the Trustees. Their references are being checked and they have been coming for their library visits. A combined meeting of the Search Committee and the Trustees will be held on January 26th to discuss the candidates. Ms. Dickinson will check into the details of the Open Meeting Law. Interview dates were proposed. The interview questions and writing sample exercise were distributed and discussed. The Trustees also discussed the Grade of the Director and possible Step placement within it. Ms. Storti will set up interview dates with the candidates. Policy Reviews Ms. Dickinson distributed the draft of the updated Policy on Distribution and Posting of Materials. Minor changes were suggested. Ms. Storti moved to accept the policy as amended. Ms. Axelson seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. Selling Donated Items on E-Bay Ms. Dickinson brought up the issue of new textbooks, which have been donated and could be sold for much more than the usual price charged by the Friends in the Used Book Room Thanks to Circulation Head, Michelle Filleul for pointing this out. The Trustees thought this a good idea but recommended consulting the Town Manager for any unforeseen problems before proceeding. No Trespassing Signs? During a discussion with Police regarding a late-night incident, it was suggested that a No Trespassing sign be posted on the building (for the hours the Library is closed).
