HomeMy WebLinkAbout2002-01-10 Human Relations Advisory Commitee MinutesHUMAN RELATIONS ADVISORY COMMTTEE MEETING January 10, 2002 Reading Police Station Community Room site 7:30 p.m. Present: Terry Jones, Phil Maher, Paul Kelley, Emily Maughan, Carol Roberts, Bob Silva Margaret Soli and Edward Toland 0 Guest: Art Ballou, Reading Advocate Meeting called to order by Margaret S. 1. Minutes of December 13, 2001 approved with correction of spelling of Amoroso. November minutes need to have date corrected to November 8th. Emily M. to send same to Carol Roberts. 2. Martin Luther King Breakfast: HRAC members will attend as they are able on Jan. 21, 10 -12 pm, First Baptist Church, 45 Woburn Street. Program presented by Consecration Ministries of Cambridge. 3. Resource and Referral Booklet/Logo: On hold pending completion of the Dialogues planning. Emily M. reported that Superintendent Harutunian has asked that we send a request to him regarding details of logo competition and he will move it forward. 4. Community Dialogues update: Sub-committee met prior to full committee meeting. Facilitators are - volunteering. Need representation from schools, town and churches. Will pair experienced facilitators with new ones if possible for dialogues. Pat Iapicca will help with pr, including cable coverage. Will ask Carol Roberts to get info to the town channel. Bob S. will provide nametags and refreshments for the March 7th event from his grant. Two Reading Police officers and a Reading firefighter will speak at the March 7th meeting along with Dept. of Justice speaker. Margaret S. to invite Diane Young to facilitate. Diane Young has set up a program on issues of gender equity among Muslims for Feb. 12th at library. Watch for details. 6. Report from the Selectmen's meeting: Terry J. reported that the selectmen will issue a proclamation for the dialogues. He reported to them regarding the progress of the committee in supporting anti- bullying programs, speakers including PFLAG and high school groups such as Unity, logo contest, resource and referral guide, MLK Breakfast, and METCO. Other: committee agreed to invite Metco Coordinator Wilma Frazer along with State Reps. Carol Donovan, Brad Jones, and Paul Casey to Feb. 14th meeting to discuss Metco and its position in Reading.
