Clay Jones
Mark Cardona
Louise Sandberg
Joe Haggarty, Reading Chronicle
David O'Sullivan
1. Minutes from May 4 and 18 approved as amended.
2. Treasurers report: a few bills from Virginia for photography, refreshments, and
plexiglass. Approved.
3. Pieces of the old water tower in the DPW barn. The town has been contacted
about putting a cellular antenna on the other tower.
4. $53 remains in the commission's account. Clay made a motion to purchase the
book Framed houses of Massachusetts, diskettes, case, and a gift for David
O'Sullivan. approved.
5. Virginia sent a letter to Don Ackerman of the Norwood Historical Commission
concerning methods used to save the Foster-Emerson house.
6. The Reading Antiquarian Society sent along a few items (1860 tax evaluation
for Reading, 1940s Chronicle, etc.) for the commission.
7. Senior Center roof: Many different opinions about ice and water shield,
stripping roof and putting on felt, and emergency grants from Mass. Historical. It
appears there is no money available for emergency grants at this time.
8. 379 Haverhill St. May 21. Archaeological pits were dug in a number of spots in
front of the house and to the east going down about 18 inches to clay. About 15 holes
were dug. Nothing was found. We had one of the former owners and the new
owners. Suggestion for a new name: Timothy's Place. Present name: Deer Run. The
garage is likely to flag the demolition delay bylaw.
9. Pearl St. barn is an out building on an historic property. The lot has been
divided and the barn is on a different street number now. The commission discussed
whether the request for demolition would or would not flag the demolition delay bylaw.
The commission would consider imposing the demolition delay bylaw for the barn
even if it does not automatic het flagged by the assessor's office.
10. Grant for Mill St. property applied for by Reading town planner.
11. Next meeting July 6, 1999. David's last meeting.
12. Adjourned: 9:20. Accepted as amended. Louise Sandberg.
