1. Caller] to order 7:35.
2. Alan Ulrich and Everett Blodgett stepped in from their meeting with the
selectmen to tell us of the news that the town if Reading has officially sold the land

adjoining the Parker Tavern to the Reading Antiquarian Society for $1694.
3. it is the opinion of the Commission that an awni over the fro nit door of t r-6
town hall would significantly detract from the architectural details of the building.
4. At Wood End: the library has taken on a box to sell. Sharlene has not yet
written a letter to the Realtors.
5. Clay made suggestions of various books that individuals could purchase for the
public library. He also recommended Preserving Historic New England for the
Commission. Virginia moved that the commission purchase it for our own library.
Clay was given approval to purchase the boob for the commission-
6. Marion Woods: Clay and Virginia met with Karen De Francisco, the
conservation administrator, discuss the development of the site. Signage was
discussed.
7_ Web site: no mews.
8. Election of officers postponed to September.
9_ 601 Main St.: ~~ac a r ro has plans for his property. CPDC says we will ; ea side
review. Ann Krieg wants us to support Vacarro's attempt to get a grant to improve the
area-
10. 75 Pleasant St..: The old Police station will be torn down and a parking lot
created- They will need a new retaining wall.
11. Virginia and Clay will meet with the new librarian at the archives Friday, Sept. 8,
at 10:00.
12. Clay suggested that we hold a contest to find the largest trees in town.
13_ 25 Auburn St.: Virginia and Clay met with Glen and tried to clarify the bylaw.
We are going to give him a check list to give to applicants before they apply for
demolition- Dave Barrett called Virginia to persuade her that the house is not worth
the effort. If we continue to prevent the demolition of this property, he will never
cooperate with us again- She suggested that he write a letter to us to ask us to
release the delay on the property. Glen feels he cannot release the permit until
Barrett has fulfilled td ge requirements of the bylaw. The commission has not received a,
letter from Mr. Barrett. Anne Krieg, the town planner arrived at 8:44. Clay asked Anne
if town counsel could be asked about provision in the bylaw if an applicant violates
key points in the bylaw during the 6 month delay. Virginia and Clay will draft a letter of
support in the grant application s for the property at 601 Main St.
14. Addison-Wesley: Scenic way hearing will be at Sept. 25th. All suggestions are
gratefully accepted.
15. Commission agrees to keep the 2000-01 budget to $1224. accepted as
V amended, LS 10-2-00
16. Sept. 12 next meeting.
