Minutes of Oct. 30, 2001 approved as amended.
214 West Street: Virginia moved that under 5.13.2.4c of the Demolition delay bylaw
that the commission made a motion to vote to place 214 West Street on the town
inventory. The owner, Dave Barrett, and the building inspector were given a 30 day
notice of this meeting. The notice was hand delivered.
Discussion ensued. The interior is gutted and new windows have already been
installed. The house is a Greek revival. It still has the same foot print and is a long
established residence in a particularly important historic area.
4-1-0 Motion passed. The house has been placed on the inventory.
Cell phone tower on the library Concerns about Nextel putting an antenna on the
library. The vote was 4-0 to approve a test on a truck of a Nextel antenna in the
parking lot of the library.
The town manager said that the student achievement sign planned for the Common is
on hold due to disagreement between the TM and the Supt. of Schools.
Old Police Station Larking lot name Cop out, Arresting Place, Affordable parking,
name of the architects (Sidebottom Place), The Police Lot. Possible names for the
parking area located where the Old Police Station used to be. Wadlin Lot after the
architect of the fire station next door. The commission voted in favor of naming the lot
the Wadlin lot and perhaps give the Senior center the name of the Wadlin Center.
The town removed $250 from our treasury rather than the $500 we originally expected.
Our balance is now $718.87.
Virginia moved that we continue our membership in Historic Massachusetts. The cost
is $45. Clay felt with the budget cuts it is better to save our money. No one seconded
so the issue was dropped.
159 Wakefield Street: The family was able to start construction.
The building inspector has been made aware of our changed procedures of the
demolition delay. He is also going to let us know about other demolition permits on
other properties so we can document them. State law now requires bldg. permits to be
submitted by legal owners.
60-62 Salem Street: It used to be on Main St. It is presently gutted and being
renovated. Virginia, Roberta, and Clay visited the house and were mostly pleased with
the work.
Received manuscript (letter and deeds relating to the Melendy family) from New
Hampshire Historical Society.
Pierce Organ Factory: Roberta showed some pictures. Roberta feels we need to be
prepared with an architect or engineer to evaluate the building. Roberta feels that the
developer, Gerald Welch, will be pulling a demo permit soon
