Minutes of June 11 approved as amended. Other minutes tabled.
Treasurer's report: attached.
Pierce Organ Factory. Last meeting we voted to pursue having this property
designated a most endangered property in Massachusetts (Historic Mass. Inc.). Clay
and Virginia have done some research about it and are enthusiastic. Clay and Virginia
have prepared the information for Historic Mass Inc.. One former employee is still
alive and might be a good candidate for an oral history. Clay contacted organ historian,
Barbara Owen for assistance in saving the building.
Anne Krieg, the town planner, is resigning.
Virginia made a motion that Mark be reappointed as our representative to the
Preservation Trust. He was approved 4-0-0.
Officers: The present officers of the commission were nominated and elected to their
present posts without any change. Approved. 4-0-0
Two old houses are for sale. Site visit perhaps? One on West St. and the other on
Haverhill St.
George Hynes is the new liaison to the commission.
420 Franklin St. Historic Homestead. Virginia is pursuing this with Mass. Historical.
The town inventory has gone out to the printer. The rest of the inventory will be
ready by the fall or early winter.
Virginia was contacted by a report from Boston Globe. Eileen Sege, for background on
the earlier construction of routes 128 and 93. 17 homes were moved at that time.
128 / 93: The commission will be asked to comment on the impact to historical/ cultural
resources. Would an Historic District effect eminent domain?
Next meeting August 6.
