Approved the minutes for October 8 and November 1 as amended.
Guidelines for the Historical Commission Preservation Trust Fund
The purpose of this Trust Fund is to forward historic preservation in Reading,
consistent with the Historical Commission's official purpose, which is to "identify and
record historic assets of the Town, and to develop and implement a program for their
preservation."
Procedural guidelines
1. All decisions on spending from this Fund shall be made by an affirmative vote of
at least three (3) voting members of the Historical Commission.
2. Any change to these guidelines shall require an affirmative vote of at least four
(4) voting members of the Commission.
Usage guidelines:
In general, the Fund shall be used for projects that are beyond the operational aspects
of the Commission`s annual budget and that are special in character. Spending projects
shall be given greater priority and consideration if they include one or more of the
following criteria; however, additional options may be considered:.
1. Education that furthers a knowledge and interest in historic preservation and
restoration related to the Town.
2. Documentation and preservation of historic materials and properties related to
the Town.
3. Services of consultants or specialists in preservation, research or restoration to
advise the Commission on historic properties and materials.
4. Matching of state or private grants for projects involving preservation or historic
research related to the Town.
Virginia moved that we adopt the fund guidelines as amended, 5-0-0.
Roberta and Virginia have prepared a draft of an inventory including the High school
building at 62 Oakland Road. Clay will mention the idea to Rick Schubert (selectman).
Roberta will get information from Russell Graham (SBC) to collect information on the
building, design, blue prints, and description of the style and purpose.
Barn at 717 Pearl St.: Public hearing coming up Nov. 19. Date of construction 1860?
Virginia will represent the South St Scenic Road extension and Clay will present the
trust fund at Town Meeting.
